For four years In the 90's" John K. Flynn was a foreman In the Washoe smelters of the Amalgamated Copper company, the largest melter in the world. While there he conceived the Idea which ever since he has been work ing out. He has taknn time enough from his work as a building contractor perfect, as he believes, an Invention which In to be placed on the smoke stacks of the smelters and which he firmly declares will separate the pois onous arsenic fumes and? carbolic add from the smoke as they pass -up the stack. Mr. Flynn says not only will his in vention separate the arsenic and car bolic acid from the smelter smoke, but t will deliver the merchantable acid and arsenic to the ground to be stored in tanks until sold. "About 1300 worth of arsenic a month goes up. the smoke stacks of the Washoe smelters." Said Mr. Flynn yes terday, "and my device will catch 98 per. cent of It. The device, by the war, is a very simple thing, though I have been a long time working it out. I have Just finished it, and I see by The Sunday Journal that the mayor of Butte has been appealed to In the effort to prevent President Roosevelt from taking any action to close the smelters. That would directly affect 100,000 peo ple. Naturally that entire part of Montana is Interested in the fight against the arsenic. I think my inven tion comes just In time." So widespread Is the effect of the arsenic that for miles around the smelt ers trees have been killed, cattle are dying from the foul air, the very grass has been so deprived of clean air that it died. In fact, according to the dis patches from Butte, the country around Anaconda, where the great Washoe smelter U located, in being reduced to a aeseri. ah inn, Mr. Flynn declares, will speedily be brought to an end when his device is installed on the smelter smoke stacks. He is already in corres pondence with the Amalgamated Copper bvuipujiy regarding a iriai 01 Ills aevice. When Everything Brags. Everything drags when the nerves are down and oat.
