For 79 minutes this afternoon the Uni versity of Washington and the Wash ington State College of Pullman, battled for victory and the state football cham pionship and left the field without hav ing conquered. The game, which was one of the greatest exhibitions ever seen .in the northwest, ended a tie six to six. each team making a place-kick and a safety. The contest showed that Washington has a real football team this year and that Pullman's ag srreiration Is In no way Inferior to tne W. 8. C. eleven of last season. It was one of those games that keep the rooters on the anxious seat every second of the play and that thrill the spectators. Both bands of warriors fought hard and viciously, smashed and crashed fearlessly and used every ounce of strength they possessed to win the coveted victory. Both teams played well In all departments and tha-game conformed to the requirements of an Ideal football contest in every partlcJ mr. Washington Better ta rirat. Throughout the first half Washing ton had much the better of Its oppo nents, keeping the ball In Pullman's territory and threatening the goal re peatedly by means of place-kicks. Six times In the game Washington essayed ta put the ball between the goal posts by a place or drop kick and succeeded only once. Pullman tried for goals from field three times and got one over safely. y During the first half Pullman was kept busy defending Its own goal and hal little time or opportunity to play on the offensive. The beefy farmers, the biggest tipping the scales at 230 and the smallest weighing 170, formed a veritable atone wall at critical times which the Washington backfield was utterly unable , to pierce. In mldfleld however, and'wtien there was no danger of a touchdown the varsity found holes and gained materially. In the first half Washington advanced the ball 207 yards on line bucks while Pullman made only 70 yards. Until 10 minutes before the close of the game Washington was clearly su perior to W. 8. C out Pullman finished strong and was outplaying the U. of W. when the whistle blew. The beef of the visitors told as the game ad vanced and It was plain that Washing ton "was weakenlnr under the gaelllng pummelling of the heavy Pullman back After making a safety and tying the score Pullman played harder and better than at any other time during the struggle. In the last 10 minutes of play Pullman advanced the ball J yards on line smashes out of a total of 122 yards made during the game. For Washington Coyle was the star. Mucklestone and Eaken did great- work and Westover and Taylor, new men, played well In the back field. . For Pull man the brilliant star was Tackle Peaner. the biggest man ever eeen on the lo?al field. Cave. Captain Wexler and Halm also, played excellent games. Wiscon sin bested Minnesota in a fiercely con tested battle today by a score of 5 to 0. A forward pass following a little old fsshlond football, dropped the ball into Dean's hands and he crossed the Go pher goal line for the only marker of the game. Wisconsin failed to kick goal. The game was hotly contested from start to finish. In the second half, although there were times when scoring seemed immi nent, the teams rallied and held. Fum bling marred the beauty of the work of both teams but both played well in emergencies. The score came after the ball had been carried well down the field by a series of plays In which the Badgers plowed a way through the Gopher line. A forward pass to Dsan gave the Badgers 10 yards and a score. Punting was the feature of the game, being fre quently resorted to. The forward pass was also freely used. Lafayette Easy for Quakers. (United Preaa Lenaed Wlre.l Philadelphia, Pa Nov. 7. Although the Quakers expected a hard struggle with Lafayette, the visitors proved easy and Pennsylvania won by a score of 34 to 4. It was the Quakers' last hard battle before the final games of the season with Michigan and Cornell, and the ease with which they disposed of the Lafayette eleven gave confidence to their followers. Notre Dame li; Indiana 0. (United Pre Leased Wire.) Indianapolis, Ind., Nov. 7. Notre Dame played Indiana off her feet dur ing the first half this afternoon before 6,000 people. STANFORD "U" TURNS TABLES ON BRITISH (Heart t Newt hy Longest Leased Wire.) Stanford, Cal., Nov. 7. Stanford's football team redeemed Itself today in the second game with the team from Vancouver. The Cardinal players won by the same score 11 to 3 as Vancou ver won on Wednesday and In doing so played as hard a game as their oppo nents and -showed greater ability to scoTe. A peculiar feature of the game was that all the scoring was done In the last 10 minutes of play. The first half was Rbout even with a slight advantage In favor of Vancouver. -Th second half, which was bitterly contested, went along without either side getting any points until 20 minutes of the 30-m.ln-ut half had expired. With only 10 minutes to play, Stan ford's men made a desperate atruggle and scored 11 in a half .dozen plays. The Britishers rallied and made their I Just before the whistle.
