Alfalfa meal demand Is growing so
fast that an entire tralnload Is belntf
brought to Portland from Echo. The
train left yesterday and will arrive hers
in time for delivery Monday morning.
One reason for this big shipment of
alfalfa meal just now Is that the rail
roads have rearranged the freight rata.
Whlla alfalfa meal formerly took the
same rate as muiaturi ii.ii per ton
to Portland the O. R. 4 N company
concluded a short time ago that no
such thing as alfalfa meal had been
specified under feeds and therefore the
rate was advanced to 87.40 a ton.. The
rate has been changed back to the lower
figure again by order of the state rail
road commission.
While comparatively a new article In
the local market the demand for al
falfa meal has grown wonderfullv and
the rate to wholesalers has been ad
vanced 60o a ton. The nrice to coh-
sumera remains unchanged at 111 t
ton.
The entire grain market remains very
quiet with quotations in the varlpus
cash lines nominal. . . .
