There is a great scarcity of razor
clams in the Front street market at

caused hv the failure of the fishermen
to connect with the steamersr Today
supplies were quite liberal again.
Potato Market Ii Stiff,
While there may be a large crop of
potatoes along the rivers or i.aniornia.

ket to any extent. While there Is prac-

Oregon potatoes, growers are not pres
sing their supplies oh the market in
fact many of them are unwilling to sell

Demand for hothouse lettuce is ralher

are holding.

Arrivals of apples from the Hood
Itlver show are liberal and demand is
good. Prices range as high as S3 a
box,
Dressed hogs are rather slow in mov
ing and the tone of the dressed veal:
market is not nearly so good as last
week.
Front street sells at the following

the yards today. During the 24 hours a
total of 106 head arrived compared with
267. yesterday and 402 a year ago today.
'The market Is ureatly Influenced by the
Inferior quality of late iirrlvals, and to
day nothing sold nbove $6.25. although
there was s sale late yesterday as high
as $s.60. The trade is Inclined to the
opinion that select quality will bring
the higher figure for awhile, but with
eastern prices again depressed It is not
known how long loco! prices can remain
In check.
Cannot Sell Sheep.
Even though sheep arrivals In tlie
yards have of late Wen verv small
there Is scarcely a demand for the few
head coming. During the 24 hours 200
head were reported In the yards, but up

buyers. The fact Is that packers are

'Sheep are hard to move Just now

supplies east of the mountains and the
few sheep now corning to the yards are

unchanged with rather light arrivals
Select steers are moving at $4, hut this
Is the extreme top.
"The hog marlet Is very weak." says
Mr. Hunt of Hunt Lacy, "and I be
lieve that the top is $6.26."

barley supplies because of the larger
holaings, but thus far they have not
offered any concession in the price.
Every one Is now loaded up with barley,
the recent purchases ,4elng very heavy.
These interests are now trying to let
go, but the buyers who were figured
upon aa possible purchasers are In a

76 years of age and an old resident of
this county, died at his home on Four
teenth street In this city last night, of
general debility. He waa a native of
England and came to the l.'nlted States
in 1852. In 1871 he settled lh this val

Nagel, a resident of Vancouver, for
aome time employed at the Twin Falls
logging eamp near Yacolt, was killed In
stantlv yesterday shortly after noon.
The body will be brought to Knapp'g
chapel in this city todav and arrange
ments for the funeral will ba an
nounced later.
Nagel was worklnx about tha cahla

broke. He received the full force from
the flying cable and according to the
meager details received over the tele
phone wire, waa killed before fellow
workmen could reach him. The dead
