Tha Uni versity of Idaho opened the football aeaaon here Saturday by a practice game with the Spokane Y. M. C. A.. which resulted In a acore of 31 to 0 In favor of the varsity eleven. The rame was one-sided from the first. Although the varsity played fairly good ball for this early in the season, the large score was due more to poor plaving and lack of team work on the part of the Spokane team. Idaho's yardage was chiefly made by Individual plavlng of her old stars, while the varsity's team work was very good. All but one touchdown was made fn the first half. Considina, J. P. " Farrell of Seattle, Miss Bernlce "Biker of Tac.6ma, I. E. Federlck of Seattle and Miss Laid law of Spokane. During the past week, I tne stables were exhibited at the Spo kane horse show held in connection with the Interstate fair and all of them won blue ribbons and many of the silver cups given at that show. Five head owned by Mr. Federlck arrived yesterday and those of the other own ers arrived direct from Spokane this morning. Mrs. Consldine brings with her sta ble many blue ribbons and several handsome cups, which she won with her high steppers, Sunshine a rut Belle Brandon. On Friday Mrs. Coneldino won the Silver Grill cup for the best pair driven by a woman and also car- I ried off the blue ribbon In the tandem class. Mr. Considine's pair also took first prixe. Merry Widow, driven by Helen Wadsworth Farrell, Mr. FarreM's youngest daughter, won the blue rib bon in the runabout class and Miss Laldlaw won several ribbons with her saddle horses. T. S. McGrath, president of the Hunt club, was luage of the Snokane horso ahow and it is-through his efforts that the Portland ahow will have so many out-of-town exhibitors. He whs also successful In getting the splendid show ing that the Vancouver, B. C, Hunt club will make this week. There would have been a greater number of entries from Vancouver and Victoria. but for the faot that the British Co lumbia exhibitors have shown at all of the horse shows held at Seattle, Spokane and at several places in Brit- lsn (jotumDia ana nave been away rrom home and their business so long that they had to pass ud the Portland show. The collection of cups Is exceedingly handsome and would reflect credit on any horse show no matter where It was held. Not all of the cups have been received, but as soon as they are, they will be added to the collection. Wash., Oct. 12 Since the close of the baseball season In Che halls there has been' considerable talk among baseball enthusiasts and othera Interested in the game about organiz ing a six-club league for the coming 8eason. to be known as the Southwest ern Washington league and compoHed of the cities of Chehalis. Centralla Aberdeen. Hoquiam. Elma. and possi bly South Bend for the sixth town in the league. Those Interested In nasehall In Che halis are heartily In favor of the league proposition, and are willing to put up their part of the money necessary to put a winning team in the field next season, and from what the other cities mentioned nave a green to io, tne plan looks like a eo now. t Chehalis Is one of the best baseball towns in the state- has one of the fastest and best equipped ball parks, and from a financial point of view made good the season just closed, having taken In over $5,000 in gate receipts from the one game a week that waa plaved here from May to October. The Chehalis club holds the world's record for the number of straight game won twenty-seven having played the best amateur clubs In Wash ington and Oregon. .. Next season many of the players of this year will be re engaged, and the team strengthened If possible.
