"A Knight for a Day," which opened for a four nights' run at the Heilig last night, la something aa pretty as has been seen in Portland for some time. It Is something that is well worth see ing, not for the comedy, though there is considerable of that seasoning scat tered through the two acts of the pro duction, nor for the singling alone, though that is good from the prima donna down, but for tha general make up of the company and particularly for tne spectacular features or tne oiece. The electrical effects thrown in with the song, "Life Is a Game of See Saw," IS worth the price of admission alone. Prom this, however, it must not be Inferred that there is nothing to a "Knight for a Day" except electric lights, for there la. There is Bobby Barry, formerly pleasantly introduced to Portland theatre goers through the medium of "Little Johnny Jonea." i Bobby la now officially known aa Jona than Joy, a lawyer, and he has brought with htm a bunch of funny buslneas that is captivating. There is Elsie Her bert in the role of Tillle Day, a servant i lady, and any one who aees her will say she Is good without waiting to hear ner. Aner mat tney win say ane is better yet There is also Gertrude Hutcheson as Murial Oliver, who does not have much to do with comedy, but who sings her way into the hearta of the audience. Aaide from these there are many other members of the company who are well worth going to see. The chorus is well balanced in voice and in size. There Is a buncb of big girls, the majes tlo kind: there is a string of Just- between who are dainty and agile, and then there ia a line of little Shetland-pony-oonstructed girls juat aa spry and bright aa kittens. It ia a pretty good- looaing cnorua up and down tne aine, neatly dressed and shapely, a good looking and well-Hinging lot Aa a wnoie. "a Knight xor a Day ia entertaining, a pleasure both to tha eye and tha ear. Its work won much applause laat night and deaerved It It will be at the Heilig tonight tomorrow nlgbt and Wednesday night pany by continuing through a .-three weeks' run with capacity houses' each night The first week's run waa such a success that tha management of the theatre granted the insistent request of patrons and extended the run of the play for a second week. At the close of the week people were still anxious to take a first second or third call on the company and the run waa com menced last night on the third week. "The Girl of the Golden West" will be at the Bungalow for the entire week with the usual matinees. F. W. Baltes and Company invite your inquiries for PRINTING First and Oak Baker Minatrels.
