Hop Combine Working- Overtime. .
The combine of big hop men seeiris
to be working overtime In manufac
turing bearish cables from abroad in
order te scare the hop-growers into
ellinr a crop at lea than cost of pro--i
ductlon. A prominent hop man, who
, is neither bull nor bear, stated this
' morning that In his opinion -the mm
who sell hop today at less than cdVt
of production la throwing that much
money into. the gutter. In the mean
time the big one with their bearlah

The market for oats future show a
loss of ic In the bid price for October,
while the asked price for the November
wa down tc and 6c for the December
deliver'. There Is some additional easi
ness in cash oats, although holder are
not disposed to offer their supplies at
any discount. Bidders sre the only ones
who see any weakness ana lower prices
ahead for tha market.
F. T. Oreer. secretary of the Pacific
Grain company, who has just returned
from a trip through the Pafouse country,
says of the situation tn oat there:
"AH through the paiouse country me
oats crop was very short this season,
and the bulk of the crop has slready
passed out of the hands of producers.
While this Is so, very little of the grain
has moved In this direction, as the trade
there Is bidding ror it. While I was
there farmers were being paid from
$1.30 to $1.36 a cental for their best
oats, and buyers were taking all offer
ings.

October were unchanged, but He ad
vance waa bid for November and De
cember delivery.
Barley was fractionally lower In San
Francisco today, and a decline of 6c
a cental was bid for October on the
board of trade. However, one sale of
2,000 sacks of cash stuff was sold today
on the board at $27 a ton, or $1.36 a
cental, which is the top figure bid yes
terday. The mDlfeed situation is very firm,
and another advance in values here is
likely. A small rise is today quoted .on
shorts in San Pranalsco. .
Export flour values are being cut
somewhat In order to induce sales. Some
transactions during the nast dar or so
have been made as low as $3.60, while
tne top notcn is but 10c higher than
that. While millers sre willing to cut a
fraction or two off their export prices,
the local situation remains verv firm.
The late advance on the sound placed

patents here, which would force the
