Without regaining consciousness R.
H. Williams, one of the stevedoring
firm of Brown ft McCabe's foremen,
died at 1:10 o'clock this morning at
Good Samaritan hoapttal aa a result of
an accident that occurred at Llnnton
yesterday afternoon.
Williams was looking after the dis
charging of ballast from tha hold of
tha French bark General Foy when the
gear carrying the heavy Iron ballast
Bucket gave way. The bucket struck
Williams on the head, fractured his
ekull and it Js believed broke his neck.
Ha waa hurried to the Good Samaritan
hospital- and doctors worked over him
till ha passed away, but It was feared
from tha first that tha injuries were
TUTSI.
L Williams came to Portland about 40
years aro and had been in the employe
of Brown & MeCabe for 18 years. He
was born in Durham, England, 64 years
ago and leaves a wife and one son, R.
H. Williams Jr., residing at 36J East
Second street north. Arrangements for
tha funeral have not yet been made.

Sloop Condor Gets Propeller Tangled
in Jrfeshcg in' Midstream.
Coming up the river yesterday morn
ing the gasoline sloop Condor picked
up a fish net in tha middle of the ship
channel and considerable time waa lost
getting it extricated from the propeller.
Pieces of the net wero secured and
brought to this city.
The Condor had a rough trip coming
up the coast from Yaquina bay, bucking
a strong northwester. She was deeply
laden, having 800 sacks of chtttlm bark
ond 250 bundles of shingles from
Waldport.
Captain xneorin expects to get reany
to sail for Yaquina this evening with
a full csrgo of general merchandise.
The Condor Is being operated oh a

The steamer Homer sails for San
Francisco this evening and the steamer
Alliance sails for Coos bay.
The Harrlman liner State of Califor
nia left for San Frahclsco yesterday
afternoon. She was detained by fog
going down the river during the night,
reaching Astoria at 6 this morning.
The steam schooner Nome City, Can
tain Hansen, arrived here last night
from San Francisco, bringing 26 pas
sengers and about 60 tons of freight
She will load wheat at Greenwich dock
and lumber at Columbia river mills for
a return cargo.
The Oregon Pine Export Lumber
company has chartered the Norwegian
steamer Hovdlng to carry lumber from
Puget sound to Australia.
The British ship Wynnstay has
shifted from the stream to the eleva
tor dock, where she will discharge bal
last snd take on wheat for Europe.
