Very dull here for the next two o? three months. The California river c ropa are almost aa heavy as a year ago? while the quality 1. moni t he best I have ever known for that arowth. East year "while, the rivers Produced heavy yield, of , potatoes, the quality was unusually bad. A-year ago the river growers of CaJlfornla were some what badly hurt In the region of their pocket boo lis by holding- their potatoes . for higher prices. This year Aey are ' going- to sell almost everything as soon ia possible In fact, thehave already started. They will sell freelr-untlMbe bulk of their crop la moved. Other mstrtcts Are Short. "Outside of " the river section there are but few potatoes In California this . year. When the river growers clean up -and that will occur late In January or early In February at the present rate or selling there Is going to be a heavy demand for Oregon.. Select Oregons will find demand all the time. "This Is one year out of five when I believe it will pay the grower of po- tatoes here to hold his supplies for good : prices. I would therefore advise the ; nnt fa aell much stock until February. Fancy smooth stock will be In demand right through the season at f:ood prices when they grade up to 8a Inas for Salinas are very, very short. However, other grades will drag along uniu sner wte turn v. j . ' Outlook for Oregon Onions j While some interests may not agree with Mr. Boardus in all his forecasts of the market, the trace in general is of the opinion, like Mr. Broadus, that Oregon onions will not sell at very high figures. Mr. Broadus told The ' Journal today: "Seventy-five cents win he a good price for Oregon onions to growers this season, ana 11 i ww i T would take that sum. Call .. fornia,. Colorado and Nevada all have . record crops of onions tnis season, ana at the present time they are selling 'in California around 60c." Mr. Broadus is on his way to Texas, for which DOint he will ship potatoes from Idaho. He expects to return to Portland when the demand from tan- fornia for our stock become, sufficient, - .
