The competitive demand for this grade Is so heavy that some buyers are inclined to the opinion that the price will go to $1 a bushel or more before the '1908-9 season is con cluded. While at the present time buyers are not quoting more than 93c for spot blue stem, basis of track delivery at tide water, they are nevertheless making con tracts for Muestem ror octoner-Kovem-vember tidewater delivery around 97c. and it is stated that growers are not disposed to do enuch business even at his advance. This is within a fraction of the highest price obtained here for wheat in many years. t:oarse grains are. amet ror cash stuff, with a disposition among th trade to bear values in oats. Barley holds firm and unchanged The flour market is quiet for both local ana export grades. Or.. Sept. 14. The farmers in this and ftther lncalltias through this county are today starting the harvest of the large cron of prunes wnicn is now ripening. The continued dry weather has brought the crop ear lier than usual and the fruit driera are taxed to the limit. The price paid to the farmers this season adds evidence to the ever Increasing possibilities of Oregon, some of the growers receiving aa high aa 5H cents per pound for their crop of prunes, this being the basis price paid for the 20 to 85 size and io less per pound for each five prunes to the pcur.i smaller. A representatives of one of tha large nurseries of the state has sold several thousand fruit trees for the fall plant ing. Apples are to ba extenslve planted, aa also prunes, plums, cherries. peaches and a great variety of the small fruits and Derriea to which Oregon la so well adapted.
