Ilound.V Vernon Arena,- Los Angeles, Sept I.-. lit one of the most surprising 'battles of Duadom. Stanley Ketrhel. the hith erto marvel and undefeated champion middleweight, was simply slaahed to pieces by Billy Papke in 12 rounds, Iteth men were In splendid condition when they, entered the rlnirand neither had aver been knocked out. Ketchel had a decision over Papke in a previous jv-rouna go. When the men entered the ring Papke walked over to Ketchel'a corner and shook hnnds with the champion, but when Referee Jeffrie called time Papke rushed In without tha preliminary hand shake and a minute and one half after tha round started Ketchel was a de feated man. It was only a question of endurance and sameness from that time on, for Papke hammered the champion at will and made him look like raw beefsteak.- Ketchel was terribly punished and was" badly marked, whereas Papke cam out of tha fray apparently as fresh as when he entered the ring. The only redeeming thing 'about the fight was the gamenesa of Ketchel In hanging on for 11 rounds. It was a case of Papke out-Ketchallng Ketchel. Following Is the fight by rounds: Bound One.
