Lebanon, Or,, Sept 1.- That there will
soon be no deer to speak of In the Ore-
fon mountains is the belief of uan
lmons, a prominent Linn county pio
neer and one of the oldest hunters In
the state. Mr. Simon lays the rapid
passing of the game animals to the
depredations of the cougar and will be
one of the foremost In favor of enact
ing a bounty law on cougar scalps.

He thinks there should be a one-mill
assessment .to cover the bounty.
He estimates that there are over 600
cougars in -the state. . A half thousand

more deer than all the hunters in the
state, ne says, irrom his experience

will average' one deer a week for feed.
