Matthew Jackson, the ninn arrested In San Francisco recentlv on the oharee of robbing the fulled States mails, is to be Indicted hv a federal (fraud iurv In Man Francisco utnl then brought to Portland to stand trial on the charge of being the lone bandit who on the even ing of July 1 held up the Tillamook stage four miles out of North Yamhill and got away with the mull pouch and the passengers' valuable-. The federal authorities are now convinced that ho Is the same man who held up 15 miners near Sterling, ( al . and relieved them of all that they had worth taking. He Is also suspected of being responsible ror most or the other sUice robberies that have taken place within the past lew weeas. This morning Postofflce Inspector R C. Clement received from Tillamook a package containing about 40 pounds of mnll matter which had been found In the brush near that place. This is sup posed to bo part of the contents of the mail sack that was stolen by the stage robber. It consists principally of cir culars, private letters of no monetary value and such other material as would he worthless to the rouoer. He appar ently threw it away Into the brush when he riflod the sack There are also a number ot the envelopes in which pos tal money order advices a-o placed by the postmasters for transmission. Os borne, Burnett find Rul'f were the bat tery for Chehalis and Kotterman and King for tho visitors. Osborne had a bad day and was touched up for nine hits and nine scores In the first two in nings. Burnett went intc the box in the third end allowed hut one score the bnl- anace of the game, but the big lead se cured In the first two Innings was more than the locals could overcome. This is the first game Chehalis has lost this season. Osborne struck out 1. passed 2 and allowed 9 hits. Burnett struck out 6 ami allowed but 3 hits. TUIamook. Or., Aug. 31 Prepara tions are complete for a rousing "good roads" meeting at this city September 4 by the Tillamook Development league. Judge John H. Scott, president of the Oregon Good Roads association, will address the people, and It has been ar ranged to have all of the road super visors of the county present. Many of tho farmers of the county will attend. Speeches will be made by men promi nent In the good roads movement, In cluding R. W. Watson, owner of the Mc-Minnville-TiHamnok auto-stage line. Tillamook has something like 800 miles of roads, and a road fund of $00. 000 available. It is estimated that Til lamook county h.8 a per capita of $6 of lead rr)nney. The county court Is sparing no effort to tuither the determination of tho peo ple to have the best roads in the state. Tillamook county's highways are ad mirably located for the making of good roads, as most of them Skirt the banks of the principal streams of the county, and an abundance of gravel Is available.
