"The Japanese have a great weakness Tor the Chinese game of fan-tap'. They have largely acquired the gambling habit In China and this country. It Is estimated that t lie Japanese have been Bpetidlng $300,000 pefyear gambling in Kresno alone. Probably as much more is squandered In Sacramento and nearlv as much here. Fresno and Sacramento have closed their gambling dens. If this county will not close its dobs, we want the officers to at least keep all Jap anese people out of them. "Our association Is seeking to coun teract the strong anti-Japanese senti ment that has arisen on this coast. Our people are a law-abiding, reasoning peo ple. Through our newspapers our branch associations and religious agen cies, we are endeavoring to tell our peo ple what is expected of them by the Americans. We are explaining to them me Americans conception or moralltv and the laws of this country governing marriage. The Japanese will complv with your laws of they are made known to them.
