Hunt club at Hamilton, near hero today
to take part in tho tournament for thfl
open championship of the T'nlted States.
Today's play was at. ?6 holes and was
witnessed ry a large crowd of enthusi
asts who followed the players arounl
the links. Tomorrow the same number
of holes will be played. leaking- a tota'
for the tournament of 71 holes as a
basis on which to Judge the winners.
Ten money prizes will be awarded
the winner receiving $300 In addition
to the gold championship medal, and
the other purses will range from $150
to $20. Amateurs winning any of the
events will receive the equivalent of
the cash prlie In plate. This is the
fourth national championship match of
the Mvopta club links. Some of the
leading professional players of th'
country have boycotted the club on ac
count of alleged unfair treatment In
former years, but the entry list for
this year's tournament Included some'

report came from the village of Capri
that Dorando's sweetheart has forsworn

The Vancouver Tri-Clty league team
will take a little stroll to Chehalls.
Wash., Saturday morning where they
will play two games with the Chehalls
team. The Chehalis team Is now the
champion of southern Washington and
has yet to be defeated, having won 26
straight games.

Carl Morton of the Whitman college
football team has closed arrangements
with the Multnomah Athletic club for
a game at Portland November 14, and
only one thing now stands in the way
of a fine week's trip into Oregon for
the Whitman tee.ni. Manager Morton
has a tentative engagement with the
Oregon Agricultural college for a game
at Corvallls November 11, but waits for
the consent of the faculty of Whitman
college before closing.
Mr. Morton, however, is hopeful that
the faculty will permit the week o?f
for the team. He points out the fact
that the guarantees on the trip will
add more than J800 to the athletic, treas- ,

If the team happens to be as strong and
fortunate as its adherents hope it will
be. Last year O. A. C was handed
out the nominal title of the northwest
champions by virtue of ono lone vic
tory over the University of Washing
ton, the only other unbeaten team in

any other college and northwest col
leges this season ars determined that
no such freak championship will again
be possible.

York, unless the United States govern
