bert, formerly a deputv United States
marshal for Oregon, first mayor of
Kargo, N 1., Hiid the first master Mas

night, aged 87 yeara. was held this
morning from Ilolman's undertaking
chapel, afterward the body being cre
mated, the Masonic ordef having
charge of the ceremonies
Captain Kgbert came to Portland in
18H0 from Kargo where he had been
many years. In addition to having
been mayor of Fargo for several terms
Captain Kgbert also published a paper
there. Captain Kgbert retired ns a dep
uty marshal In Portland In 189R and
noon afterward was appointed a lialllff
tn the federal court which position he
held until May. last year, when he waa
compelled to retire on account of his
fiillln health.
