With Uib latest Kovernment report Indicating- the smallest average potato crop In 10 years, there Is a inlied con dition In the local market. California is the only state to show- as good ft crop as a year ago and better than any of the crops during the past 10 years. Ueeause. of the abnormal rainfall thre the past season the production Is good but the Jack of sufficient moisture Is bringing- down the Oregon, Idaho an l Washington productions from previous seasons In recent years. The greatest decrease In the crop Is noted In Wash ington, which, according to the gov ernment figures, will produce but S'l per cent of the normal or 11 per cent le.MS than a year at;" anil the small amount less the annual output for the pat 10 years. Whilo the Oregon pro duction is four per cent smaller than the previous season It 1h but two per cent smaller than the average for 10 years. Idaho shows a loss of five per cent from a year ago and seven por cent for 10 years average production. Seal Decrease X Greater. While the figures given by the gov ernment are not really alarming and will likely show tho real condition taken as a whole, the report Is not a proper one to figure upon for It makes no allowances whatever for the abnor mal production of small sizes which are not of proper duality to go upon tho market. The greatest decrease In pro duction Is therefore in the larger sized potatoes the select stock -for which Oregon is noted. On this account there Is a very bad ly mixed condition regarding potato prices. While buyers are very eagerly offering us high as $1.10 per 100 pounds Portland for the fancy stock stock that can be shipped to the north there Is too great a supply of or dinary small stuff offering and for this class of potatoes tho market Is rather weary with irice dragging some what. .Sales by producers of the or dinary .stock recently have been made down to 70c per 100 pounds;- few de;ils for this chits of goods being made over 80c. Along- tho street the trade Is selling ordinary potatoes today aroiind $1 per 100 pounds or JOc under tho price they are quite wUiing to pay for select quality for shipping. Onion Market X Firmer. There Is a firmer tone In the local anion market because of the' small sup plies offered. Another car camo in trorn Wnlla Walla but it was purchased before the recent rise there and con sequently prices are unchanged along the street. Only a nominal amount of local onions has arrived thus far and therefore cut but little considera tion in price making. As far as the onion crop Is con cerned, reports now Indicate that It will he little changed here from that of a year ago. The government figures give tho following condition for the first of the month compared with a year ago: 1908. Idaho 97 Washington 90 Oregon 90 California 92 Tlve increase In the California duction of onions Is due to the that lands located alon the rlvero which had been used for years for potatoes but which bad become unfit for that purpose by floods. Is now be ing utilized for onions and reports from there Indicate a good growth. Oregon's acreage Is slightly decrease-1 because of the running of a railroad through various patches. Brief Not of the Trad. Syrups are shewing an advance of lc a gallon. Four cars of watermelons came In from California today. Kalny weather would stop sale. California cantaloupes are losing the local market because of better Orenm quality. " chicken market Is not quite so active flffd tradf expects slower sales and per haps lower price for week. Kggs are slightly firmer with most sales along the street at 25c. Quality Improving somewhat too. Creamery hutter and cheese markets are both firm. Peach market Is down a notch with very Heavy supplies. Fancy corn is now arriving from Canhy and Is ' finding tetter sale. Front street sells t the following prtces. The soundest, safest, surest speculation is : I.Uiy 100 shares of something selling at $2 per share to make 100 points profit instead of buying 100 shares of anything at $100 per share to make 2 points profit. Your liabil ity on $100 per share' is $10,000; at $2 per share it is onlv $200. The greatest fortunes in the world have ALL been laid on this fouildation. .My own fortune and financial success was laid in buying llutte & Boston at the present price of "National Stock." Standard Oil, Rog ers and Rockefeller, who were my partners in the deal, and every broker in Boston and New York, will vouch for this fact. They will vouch, too, for the fact that 1 advertised as I am now advertising "National Stock" that all who would buy at $2 per share would be able to sell at $100 per share, and also for the fact that inside of two years from the time I ad- ( vertised they could all have sold at $130 per share, and notwithstanding the recent panics and what-nots each $2 invested in Butte & Boston upon my pledge for its future is worth in the open market today $80. I trust that people everywhefeVstvill buy "National Stock" to the extent of every dollar then- can spare and not be frightened off by, the System's ntachinations ; for the System, panic-stricken at the enormous success of "Na tional Stock," as evidenced by the trading each day in the open markets of Boston and New York, from 500,000 to 800,000 shares, is get ting out its broom to sweep back the deluge. It has sent instructions to its press agents and brokers everywhere : "Spread this story: 'Na tional Stock' is a blind discretionary pool; has never been traded in on Stock Exchanges, is not traded in on any open market. Is sold pri vately by Lawson for his personal profit." To spike this mud gun of the System I herewith, as president of "National Stock," legally bind it to pay to anyone w'ho can prove there is any truth in any of-the above state ments the sum of $50,000. Yesterday was the heaviest day for orders, pamphlets and inquiries since the campaign began. Tomorrow the first pamphlets will be mailed. On. receipt of pamphlets the real buy ing of "National Stock" will begin, and in an ticipation of the tremendous demand I again ask that everyone limit their orders to $3 per share (Boston) or $6 (New Yrork) and to hold orders at this figuie until I advise in public advertisements to increase the limit.
