The National baseball commission yesterday landed a hard blow on the professional ball player when It passed a.'rule prohibit-I irg the club owner from giving a bonus or other prize to the players of his team for their part In the world's champion ship Beries, played each fall. A rule relative to the optional release of play ers was also passed. This first rule will mean the loss orf from $500 to $2,000 to tha playera par ticipating In the. world's series. Hast year President Yawkey of the Detroit club of the American league gave the players of his team a check for $15,000, which was divided among some 15 or IS players, while Murphy of the Chl cjijro Cubs gave almost as much. Why the commission should have taken such f.ctlon Is not generally understood here but it is supposed that It was to stop the giving of a large bonus in order that it might not become a precedent. The White Sox of Chicavgo had beon promised a trip to Fairope this fall pro vided they proved winners. The rule in regard to the optional re lease of players provides that no major league player can be released to a minor league club with the promise of repurchase, for a less sum than $300.
