Oyster Bay, L. I.. Aug. 10 Score of
beautiful presenta and as many letters
of congratulation poured In at Sagamore
Hill today for Mlsa Ethel Roosevelt In
honor of her seventeenth birthday. Not
only has the event been remembered by
her school friends and the members of
her famllv. but admirers from all parts
of the country have showered her with
manifestations of their Interest.
AJthough Ethel still retains much of
her girlish enthusiasm, she is rapidly
growing Into charming womanhood.
Her Intellectual attainments are much
' above the average for a girl of her age
nnd in manv ways ahe is said to re
semble her fllustrlous father.
She will not actively enter Washing
ton society for severs! years but It Is
' probable ahe will take a prominent
place In the White House functions this
winter, owing to the fact that It Is the
last season her father will spend there.

CHEAP INSURANCE DID
NOT H0D TEN'MEN
Bailiff Riley of the municipal court
strained his voice this morning calling
the names of 10 men. The 10 had been
drunk Saturday night. Each had put
up $2 to InBure his presence In court
today, but the Insurance wasn't high
enough at any rate the 10, who were
of course arrested at different hours
and in different places, kept carefully
away from the courtroom. The city is
richer by $20.

RARE RELIC.
Only One Known to Extst of Six
Medallions Made fop Lafayette.
Mrs. F. Luis Mora of this city owns
a Washington relic which, so far as is
known, is the only one of its kind in
existence. It is one of six medallions,
which were made to order for General
Lafayette.
Before Lafayette took leave of the
officers of his staff, says the Circle, he
had these medallions made In Paris and
. presented them to the six officers im
mediately under him. The five others
have disappeared and may have been
destroyed.
Tne one in wire. Mora s possession '
made of cut glass bound by a heavy j
rim of solid gold, to which Is attached i
a gold ring by which it may be sus- :
pended. Between the two layers of '
glass Is a beautifully modeled head of
Washington In plaster, silvered.
On the- reverse Is the Inscription,
"Desprez, Rue des Recolets No. J, a
