Eastern Oregon boasts of a number of good schools, among which Pendleton academy Is a leader In aeveral direc tions. Established primarily as a col lege preparatory school and still laying stress upon this part of Its work. It has added new courses, thus keeping up with the demands of the public. Two years ago a course In domestic sci ence, anil another In Instrumental music, were added, which have proven very satisfactory and attracted numbers of deserving students. This year an addi tional course Is offered In vocal music, under one of the most accomplished vocalists In Oregon. Parents who have children for whom thev are seeking a proper school for higher education should consult with the principal. Kev. W. H. llleakney, Pendleton, Or. REPUBLICAN FOR WEBSTER'S SHOES County Judge Will Resign If the Right Man Is Appointed. If County Judge Webster decides to retire from office to take up the work of making good roads It Is expected that he will be succeeded on the bench by a Republican. Just now he Is hesl tatlng on the resignation question, for more reasons than one, but one of these reasons. It Is certain, Is that he desires to make sure that If he steps down his shoes will be oooupled by a member of ine same party faith. The appointment to nil a vacancy would be In the hands of the governor. Tim place pays a salary of JS.U00 per year, and J better thlna-a In sight, financially con Have you a boy or girl whom you are about to place In a school for higher education? Have you considered the claims of Pendleton academy? A .high class school with a decidedly moral tone, giving courses that prepare the eighth grade graduates of Oregon pub lic schools for college, home, work, life. Courses In domestic 6clence, vocal and instrumental music ami peimnusv nnvo . . let.tv ,,n added and lira meeting with not fit the thief he left It with the ftsur. and Judge Webster has several sidered. Two years of his term remain to bs served, and he la known to be re luctant to quit the offlc-. without feel ing assured that a Republican would take bis place. Now the wise ones are saying that Governor Chamberlain will make It easy for the county Judge If he wishes to retire. Jn other words, the governor will let the Renublloan label stay If the appointment falls Into his hands. A Democrat In the position would In any event be powerless In matters of policy as a member of tht board of county commlfsloners, as Commissioners Llght n it and Karnes uould outvote film. There would be no party advantage In ; ir commodatlon of Judge Webster. The good roads movement Is said to have sufficient financial backing to make It certain that a good salary can be of fered to a man of prominence to take hold of It. The theoretical stage Is passed and various commercial clubs, automobile organisations and Influential farmers are behind Ilia plan, which will be worked out next luonlli when the good roads conference Is held. Until that time there can be no de cision on the employment of a man to take charge of the worn, but J nag's the appointment, and the change. East night the patrons of the Oaks were given an Insight Into some very amusing matrimonial tangles which do not usually fnll to the lot of those under the guidance of the little winged god. The occasion was the presentation of "A Runaway Honeymoon" by the Allen-Curtis comedy company at the big airdome, and to say that the play was well received would be to put it mildly. A Kunaway Honeymoon is a two- act romodv full of laughs, funny situa tions, prettv songs and costumes. There is a plot, that Is there is a tnreau or story running through the piece, but It Is not sufiiclentlv in evidence to be ob trusive so that one could start at the end of the piece and work back with as much enjoyment ss though be began with the tit st curtain ana sat tnrougn to the end. It Is a succession of songs and comedy which, like a piece of good pie, can be taken ln sections or whole as the appetite may suggest. It is useless to begin to tell or each and every distinctive feature for all of the action In the piece Is worth listening to. There are a number of pretty songs and choruses by the differ ent members of the company. all of them well rendered by tho soloists and Ftrongly bneked bv the newly costumed chorus. In addition to the regular work done by the company members a new speclaltv has been added the "lllmm Boom Brr-rr" trio which is made up of good voices handled In excellent style.
