Negotiations have been going on for
several months for the purchase of
about "00 acres uf land adjoining I)e
laura beach, the new resort lately ac
quired by the Moore Investment com
pany. O. I. Ferris, secretary of the
Columbia Trust company, has com
pleted them and tho extensive arrange
ment ( . details for the Improvement
of the property will be prosecuted with
out delay.
This new beach resort will be known
as Idlewild. The Astoria and Columbia
railway runs through the property and
it is said the Astoria, Seaside and Tilla
mook railway will also run through it,
thus giving good transportation facili
ties. Idlewild will be the home of the Clat
sop Beach Chat.iuqua asaoclatlon and
tho Northwest Conference and Training
school of the V. M. C. A. The first ses
sion of the Clatsop Heach Chatauoua
will be held at Idlewild In August, ljo!).
Fifty. acres of this new beach will be
reserved for community property and
the balance will be platted and sold.
Some of the features planned are a
new sanatorium a health resort, not a
hospital, an administration building,
two hotels, an auditorium to seat 3.000
people, and an athletic field of 20 acres
to be in charge of Robert M. Grllley,
physical director of the Portland Y. M.
C. A.
It ls expected that everything will be
ready for the season of 1909 Tho new
beach resort will be conducted under
Chatauqua principles and will be a
most desirable summer resort, as nil
