COTTEL IH FAVOR
OF $1000 LICENSE
Councilman Cottel la still on the war
path after the scalps of the restaurant
owners, and stated today that he Is In
favor of Increasing the license of such
places from $300 to tl,000. Instead of
from 1300 to 1800, as provided by the
Vaughn-Drlscoll ordinance, wnlch was
referred back to the liquor license com
mittee at Wednesday's meeting of the
council.
"These places are the real menace,"
said the chairman of the committee,
"and there Is no reason why they
should be allowed to pursue their bus
iness. If we can put them out of bus
iness by raising the license I am In
favor of such a course. Furthermore,
I believe that we can put many of them
out of bublness In this manner, which
will glvo us the opportunity to keep In
closer touch with the remaining res
taurants und thus enable their better
regulation.
There Is po more doubt In my mind
as to the advisability of raising the
license than there Is that many young
women are led astray In the restau
rants Hy mitigating the risk we miti
gate the suffering, and If we raise the
license and thus save one girl our
action In raising the license will be
more than vindicated.

applied all very well to the date of the

to residents of tho vicinity, the two
