views. In the case of Myers et al. vs.

the court said: 'Nor does the validity
of the special assessment depend upon

Mrs. Bitter Begins Suit, Al-
. leging Former Spouse
Defrauded Her.
1
' Mrs. Matilda D. Drake Hitter, dl-
; vorced wife , of G. F. Ritter and also
of a Mr. 1 rake, lias begun suit In the
circuit court to reform a deed to prop
ji erty given Tier by her lafft husband and
2 to declare void a chain of other deeds
I resulting from transfer of the same
, property to Ritter's son, Edward L.
Bitter. She declares that her husband
1 practiced fraud upon her and knowingly
f - cave her a defective deed to certain Al-
blna property in December, 1906. .
5 In the suit started yesterday Edward
I Ritter, R. O. Busse, D. Hardowick
i and Mrs. Bardowick are made parties
defendant. Edward L. Ritter received
I a quit claim deed to the property in
' Question on April 1, two weeks after
I the date of his father's last divorce,
f r the elder Ritter also having been more
i than once married. In May, as Mrs.
i v Drake-Ritter alleges, young Ritter was
i given a warranty deed to the property
by his father. He soon sold the land to
Busse and the latter passed It on to
the Bardowicks, In whose name the
title now stands.,
i Mrs. Drake-Rltter asks for an lnjunc-
tion to prevent further transfer of the
property pending the decision of the
case. Ritter Is 68 years of age. He
was refused a divorce by Judge Frazer
last year, but his wife was more suc
cessful last May before Judge O'Day.
at which time she said her husband was
so stingy that he would lunch on sour
wine and doughnuts in the shade of
the porch without offering her a bite.
Bhe said he refused to buy her a bottle
of medicine when she was sick until
she gave htm 60 cents to pav for It.
WILL BE LONGEST
PAVEMENT IN CITY
Property owners on Hawthorns ave
nue have petitioned the city council for
an asphalt pavement fryn East Third
to East Klfty-fcurth Fired, making the
longest single stretch rf pavement In
the city. The cost of t he proposed ln
' provement will be about J 180,000
j If the project Is carried to comple
tion the benefit to the east side is al
most impossible to estimate. It will be
the main outlet for the commercial dis
tricts across the river and extends
- trough one of the best residence dis
trict In Portland. More than one-half
the property owners on the street have
signed the petition, thus Injuring Its ap
' provai by the council.

THE DOCTOR says "drink beer" to the weak and the
convalescent. To those who need strength nped a food and
a tonic. If it is good for them, isn't it good for you?
"
The virtue of beer does not4 lie in the alcohol. There
is only VA per cent, of that.
It lies in the malted barley a digested food. And in
the hops a tonic and an aid to sleep.
It lies, too, in the fact that the drinking of beer flushes
the system of waste. So would water, of course, if one
drank enough of it. But you don't drink water like beer.
When beer is pure there is nothing more healthful. And
Schlitz beer is pure. It brings no after-effects, no biliousness.
But better go without beer than to drink the wrong beer.
That is why the Doctor generally says "Drink Schlitz."
Ask for the Brewry Bottfinf.
Common beer is somMimes substituted for Seklits.
To avoid being imposed upon, see that the cork or crown is branded Scklits
