of the territory. From special advices
received today the run during tne preu

The market for Alaska fish Is In the
best possible shape, especially for tne
better grades. While the formal prices
fnr h iqna nnrU have not yet owi
numed by the Alaska Packers' assocla
thA tnHitnandnni naokers are el
ready making sales at an advance of 10c
fnr thA hot tor mielltv and the same

Frank C. Barnes, the local cannerv
man who Is very heavily Interested In
salmon fishing: and packing In soutn
eastern Alnska, states that the market Is
rxcellent for reds around $1.20 as com
pared with the opening last yenr arounfl
$105. Later In the 1807 season reds
eold as high as $1.16, and even at
this figure stocks were soon exhausted,
so heavy was the demand. The a.rne
condition rules in medium reds wnlen
are expected to open at $1 as compared
wltn oe a year ago.
Cheap Grades Carried Over.
Because of the carrying over of lib
eral supplies of pinks and chums from
a vear ago, It Is not expected that there
wfll be nny advance In these two grades
from the price that ruled a year ago
not at least during the start of tho
reason. ...

Gervais. Or.. July 11. What to do
with the loganberry Is the question that
Is worrying the berry growers of this
and the H rooks section. A lnrte acre-
agle of this fruit came into bearing thia
year. Already prices do not warrant
shipping except upon orders. The
Brooks association has in its member-
hip a large majority of the growers
hereabouts, including Brooks, but there
are a few outside growers not members
or tne association wno are snipping in
dependently, and In a measure spoiling
the market.
The Brooks association has contracted
for a carload dally to Portland.
It is now proposed to dry the berries
and quite a number have already begun
the work of using aun and patent
dryers. It Is claimed that the fruit
dries splendidly and keeps well under
almost any condition In this state. The
outcome Is watched with Interest, as it
means the life of this new industry.

ONE OF SILVERTON'S PROMINENT FAMILIES
There are all kinds of thieves,
but the meanest one yet is the
one who stole the horse that
brings supplies to the tubercular
patients of the Open Air sani
tarium at Mtlwaukle. The poor,
bedridden Inmates of the sani
tarium depend upon this animal
for all the little things that
make their hard lot bearable, as
without him there Is no other
mode of conveyance at the sani
tarium. A. L. Mills, president of the
institution, owns the horse
which he found missing from
the barn this morning together
with a saddle and bridle. The
animal weighs 1.100 pounds,
has two white hind feet, long
black mane and tail, is 14 hands
high and nine years old. It Is
believed an attempt will be
made to sell him at Oregon City.
Oresham, or some other nearby
place.
