BBJLNCH OTPIOBS EH rOKTXAWS: UNCORKED ITS CHEERS TOO SOON i -- (Continued from Page One.) the signs that the event of a con vention was at band. Uncorked Too Soon. Gore had uncorked the company fizz before the banquet was ready. The great crowd roared with Joy as It unbuckled Its lungs In Its mad ness. At the end of perhaps five minutes of cheering some one in Pennsylvania grabbed the guidon of that state and started to march to ward Nebraska. Indiana and Illi nois followed and soon half a dozen states were marching at the big moon-faced Bryan banner of Nebras ka and in three minutes two dozen 1 states were In the bear dance, with jumping guidons. The band played "Hot Time" and the crowd screamed with delight. Two dozen and then three dozen state banners were romping over the hall. The crowd stopped at Mary land and then with a shout Maryland fell In. Then 40 states were In the procession. It went to the front of the hall as 1O.CH0O men howled In delirium and sufrounded the Ne braska banner. That was after the cheering had lasted 20 minutes. Then the phalanx at the speaker's platform went back and surrounded New York; but New York remained unmoved. The madmen capered to Minnesota. But seven strong men and true gripped the Minnesota ban ner and held it fast. Fight Over New Jersey. Some Kansas fellows were going to steal it and the word came to Minnesota and she got ready for a fight. There was a fight for the New Jersey banner, and a struggle to get Delaware to move. Connec ticut also was unshaken. The crcwd In the galleries raw the milling of the human ants on the floor and bawled Itself hoarse at the craxy tight. The roar of the crowd was growing steadier and the march of the delighted demons on the floor was growing more and more gro tesque. It was aa spontaneous aa bedlam. It was more than spontan eous; it was accidental, and as the crowd went wild the reporters thought of poor General Clayton, who has been working for two weeks on his speech- as permanent chair man to arouse Just the demonstra tion that Gore called forth. There were eaglet on perches dancing above the craxy crowd, cowgirls marching through the throng yen in g, bands tooting la the breathing pells, frrorlte daughters of the va rious delegation on the platform t POLICY HLNRY LYNCfi, rgroisB,M.3iJM waving the banners of the states. There were banners of marching clubs, mottoed banners like that of Michigan, bedlzzened in gold with the motto of the Omaha platform, "Equal rights to all; special priv ileges to none." There were old men and young men grating in the din and the noise never faltered nor needed claque to keep it going aad the clock went round and half way around again, as this pandemonium raged, and above It all there was the pale face of Grover Cleveland, the loader forgotten, the prophet whose doctrine was discarded, sol emnly gazing down on the scene. Georgia Did Hot Badge. And still Georgia did not budge. The young men who directed the music in the gallery saw the delegates crowd ing around Oeorgla and being a young man and from north of Mason and Dix on's line, he played "Marking, Through Georgia, and that set the hair on Georgia, and nothing on earth could have budged her. Slowly the roar died down and the convention went back to sanity. But It was a great demonstration th greatest ever made In America and lasted 60 minutes. Cheering to Koose- veii was a gooo-Dye to party leader. It will be Interesting to watch and wait for another four years to roll around and to note whether the dem onstration of good-bye to the leader whom this convention honored, will be as sincere and hearty as that with which he Is greeted today. The calm pale face of Grover Cleveland looking across at Thomas Jefferson on the other side of the hall, might have winked slyly as he thought of the little sigh of good-bye which the convention bestowed on him yesterday How soon we are forgotten wlien we are gone. Evening Session. When the oonventlon opened this eve ning 15,0u8 people crowded into thn hall, the most beautifully designed and decorated hall which ever held a na tional convention. The cnmn.Vtee on credentials had lost its report. It was given to a stenographer who disap peared with it and forgot to coma back. Ho the convention nuriM ti over an hour listening to Congressman Hobson, who made his congresslonil and Chautauqua speech on the larger navy. Hobson got in a quarrel wi'n the convention and his usefulness is over. Senator Bob" Taylor followed pleasantly saying nothing admirably. And then the real trouble of the eve ning began over the proposition of Mr. Bryan's friends to run the har row of Mr. Guffey of Pennsylvania. MOTOR HAPPY ED just as C-H.
