The Eeals scored right off the reel. Mohler caught one of the first balls filtched by Groom, which he stretched nto a double. He promptly filched third. The foxy kid was unusually fleet of foot yesterday and willing to take any, .chance. When Zelder hit to short and eras thrown out at first the kid beat Danzig's throw to- th plate. It was a bit of work that brought the crowd to Its feet. The locals made It two more on the Beavers In the fourth. "There will be no Immediate reduc tion In the work done by the physical department at the Y. M. C. A," said Physical Director Giilley this morning, discussing the pronouncement made by Religious Director Clark that there would in the future be more of a tend ency to treat the physical work as a side Issue. "The plans of the new Y. M. C. A. huildlmr show that there will bo greater space devoted to gymnastic work than hefore and that the upbuilding of a man's body is stiil held to be one of the principal objects of the Y. M. C. A. work." added another association work er. The policy of tbe present board he.s -been that a man's body should re ceive first attention, and when that has been develuped the development of his mind and body would proceed apace. "There has, however, been a faction In the association, which argues that the original formation of the Y. M. C. A. was not for the objects of physlcai development, and they cannot allow, with the progress of the yars, that there must b a change In tho methods used if a grip Is to be retained on the younger men of the cities. The pushing forward of the religious work to the detriment of the physical and educa tional work would, whlfc adding to the value of the religious "work done, have the effect of neutralizing much of tho association progress u;ong other lines. "There Is no doubt but that we must place more stress on the religious side of the work," continued Director Giil ley, "and in that I in main agree with Mr. Clark. It was planned to tow some 100 yachts, motor-boats and canoes down the river with a tug, but many concluded they .would rather see the races on the river tomorrow than take the trip. Therefore It was de cided this morning to postpone the event. July 26 the same plans will be carried out that were evolved for today. The boats will leave Saturday night for the mouth of the Columbia and will return Sunday night. CRAWFORD WOULD TRY "STR ANGLER" SMITH J. R. San Fran cisco' is already beginning to buzz with the talk of fight fans In anticipation of the contest between Joe Gans and Battling Nelson. Tomorrow afternoon the two great lightweights are to meet again In the Mission arena in an at tempt to settle the question of rela tive supremacy. Tho names of the two fighters are today on every Up and time else is heard. The amount of Interest manifested In the but is something of a surprise, considering tho fact that It Is general ly looked upon as a "cinch" for the fiusky champion and the further fact that Nelson, since his last meeting with Gans, has met with a decisive de feat and Is supposed to have gone back In condition and ability. Tho attention that the match has. at tracted In sporting circles can only be accounted for by the fact that the spectators are assured of getting their money's worth whenever Gana. and Nel son meet In tho'rlnij. In their previous bouts they have never failed to put up fast and interesting fights and there Is no reason to expect that their meet ing tomorrow will be an exception. Botli fighters are In the best of con dition for the contest. If outward ap pearances and tho confidence of their respective camps count for anvthinsr. Gans Is not Inclined to hold the Dano cheaply, though he Is confident of his ability to put him away and expects to do the trick before the 20th round' is reached. Nelson knows whnt he Is go ing against when he tackles the cham pion and has trained faithfully for the contest. He realizes the fact hat If he loses In (he fight tomorrow he Is prac tically suro of being relegated to the list of "has beens."
