and -Rockwell, a distance of 25 miles
From .Rockwell to -Pasco much of thei

Frank W. Clark, an eastern man
broke the ground In Walnut Park today
for a residence that will cost about
126,000. The first story win ba of
stone. Mr. Clark bought lota 6, 6 and
7, In block 7, to have ample ground
for bis new mansion at the corner of
Rodney avenue and Emerson street.
Lulu B. Conser, who sought lots 6 and
7, block 6. at the corner of Cleveland
and Emerson streets, has also broken
around todar for a new residence to
cost about $5,000.
Plans are being completed for a new
high school. School district No. 1 had
two blocks Jn the North Patton tract,
and has purchased an area equal to 17
lots In Walnut Park adjoining their old
property on which to erct a 40 room
school. The property they now hold
there equals eight city blocks less three
lots. Tne sit Is a commanding one on
tha summit of the peninsula, there being
a grade on both sides leading to the
Willamette and Columbia rivers.

The new contract cans ror six day de
liveries each week to the principal sta
tions along the river, and for supplying
mall service to Ouinn , three times-each
week. Not more- than 12 hours must be
consumed by the vessels in making the
run from Portland to Astoria,, or in
the opposite direction. '
The towns mentioned in the contract
are as follow: St. Helens, -Caples,
Kalama. Rainier, Ladu, Waterford,
Cathlamet, Skamokawa. Brookfield.
Stella. Oak Point. Eagle Cliff and
Q u Inn.
