Hands Down- Xibomls TVelL Portland ahould win the senior tour race at the Lake Washington regatta at Seattle Saturday hands down. Tbera la probably not a faater craw In tha ; United SUtas today - than ; tha local aaramen. Laat night over tha mlla and a half course Coaoh Murphy . and ev eral otheri hold tha watch on them and , they covered the distance In 8:16, the average time on the Schuylkill regatta course, Tha Portland boys leave (or the sound tonight - - - Dr. Loom I a, who waa 111 for several -- daya laat week, wu In hla eeat and atroked tha four, aa ha also did this morning. Captain McMlcken atated that Loomla would be In splendid ahapa by the end of the week and able to pull IV aa well aa if he had not been In the Igrlp of a aevere cold. - r. r with competition to apur them a tha crewamen could probably above tha firow of the shell acroaa the zinianing tna In close to 8:10, which Is about record time on tha Schuylkill. Tha crew , is much faster than tha one which took unnnri nl&na In tha national reffatta two years ago. Coach Murphy ia confident ; mat the men unaer mm couia rain a better allowing gainst the eastern crack crewa than hia old wards. Coof Ideal of Junior Ton. Portland Is alao pretty confident of taking the junior four. Since Gloss took a seat in the boat he has added ma terially to the strength. The junior ; crew la about half a minute behind the senior four In speed, which la about the ; earns proportion as the present senior erew was to the aenlor crew that want caat when It waa in the lower ranks. if Portland takee both of the-big races it will be satisfied. Captain Mo. Mfcken figures on the local club taking three out of the six races or tne re gatta. In addition to the erew racea he figures on a first in one of the singles, tie is somewhat of the opinion that Ed : Gloss in the senior singles will have a much harder time thin Art Allen in the junior sculls. Gloss will have to meet Lain, of Vancouver, the present cnam plon, and DeBrleay, the Nelson wonder. This trio fought it out last summer. LeBrlsay started off in the lead and waa going Uke tha, wind when some thing happened to hla boat and he ad to atop. Lain beat Gloss out about five feet. This year Gloae -la in mucn oei t nniitlnn and ahould beat Lain. Ehere has always been a ausplcian that eBrlaay waa pretty tired and was glad that the accident happened to his boat " ' Blnclalr of the Vancouver club ie the tnan who will worry Allen in the Junior - aln.lai.'.lfl M crrwfl An nd has had considerable experience in racing. However. Alien is no mean oars man, and if Blnclalr doea beat him It will be after tha hardest race the Ca: Vnadlan has ever rowed. v Kay Withdraw from Doubles. I Unless there ie a good chance to win Iha junior doublea Captain McMlcken .Mil withdraw Conant and Allen from the race. Victoria haa a pair of oars men who have been rowing together for several years and under ordinary elr eurnatancea they ahould win. - Conant and Allen would! probably push tha Vic torians to the limit to win. but that would severly taa their strength for the big race tne next asy. nanmr - any chances of , fagging them, he will ' withdraw them If the race looks easy, af course; the pair will enter.- " The local oarsman who go BeU' tonight are: A. C. McMlcken. Dr. . B. Loomls. R Conant. Art Allen. Ed O. Gloss, J. O. Sterling. R. O. Tully andV. gent Coach Murphy will accompany the crew-and several local enthusiasts lut wina the reaatta , Friday and Saturday. - BALDWIN DRAWS .I WITH CHAMPION (United frees Leased Wirt.) , New York, June 80. - Abe Attell fought - a six-round, no-decision contest with Matty Baldwin here laat night Y,nth mn war nn their feet at that nnri of the sixth round. Attell had a dis tinct advantage at first, but Matty came through the second round with WINNER OF ENGLISH DEKBY AND CLASSIC OAKS. v ' This plcturo la, one of the flmt received In this country of Cueralier GlnlBtrelll, the Italian sportsman, and his great mare, Slgnorlnetta, which won, the Epsom Downs Derby, that 'bine ribbon event of the English "verge or poverty wnen nis oeioYea placed him in a position of comparative affluence.
