that It seems to extend on a very mod
erate Incline toward the southwest, to
ward Bnake river. Occasionally It la
precipitous for a few feet, and then
laada away again for hundreds of feet
on a gentle declivity. -

depth have found it difficult to keep a
lantern ruining, ana uiey nave not ven
tured further than S00 feet.
