There waa submitted to tha electors or the port of Portland, Mult nomah county, state' of Oregon, at the last areneral election? held on Mnnda.v. June 1, 1908. as required by law, an initiative petition for "an act to pro ton by initiative . petition-' certain amendments, to that certain act of the legislative aasembly of the state of Ore gon establishing and Incorporating the Port of Portland, filed in tha office of the secretary of state , March 1, 1901, and published In . the , general session year 1901, on pages 417 to 483. both in elusive, as amended by two certain acts of tha legislative assembly, of the state of Oregon, filed in tha office of the sec retary of stata both on February , 26, 1908, and published in the general ses sion laws of the state of Oregon for tha year 1903, on pages 835 to 339, both in clusive, and pages 839 to 341, "both in clusive, and by which amendments so proposed the corporate powers of tha Port of Portland are hereby enlarged so as to authorise and empower aaid oor- fioratlon, tha Port of Portland, tq establ ish and ' maintain an efficient towage and pilotage aervlce on the Columbia river bar and upon the Columbia and Willamette rivers between the corporate limits of tha Port of Portland and the sea, through the Instrumentality of said the Port of Portland; and for the pur pose of carrying into effect the pro visions of this act to authorize and em power the Port of Portland to Issue, sell and dispose of bonds not exceeding in the aggregate the sum of five hundred thousand dollars, and to levy special taxes not exceeding in the aggregate one twentieth of one per cent upon all prop erty, real or personal, situate within Its boundaries and which is by law taxable for state and county purposes"; and Whereas, On the 19th day of June,; ibvs, tne secretary or tne fort or port land. In my presence as president of said the Port of Portland, did canvass the votes given for and against said law; and - ; 1 , Whereas, it was ascertained and de termined upon such canvass that there were 16,111 votes cast for said proposed law and 4,294 votes against the same, and that said law received an affirma tive majority of the total number of effective votes cast thereon and entitled to be counted under the provision- of law; Now. therefore, I. C. F.
