The dispute was over sales of the
Truett company stock, the Neveda men
claiming that Morris had been deliber
ately selling short at a price consider
ably below the market In an attempt
to ruin the company. The differences
were adjusted, however, and today all
parties concerned are reconciled,

large, having secured his release
from the El Paso, Texas, Jail on
payment of small bail,

stopped there, and ao Bails were again
set and the run to Alnsworth dock was

oning the Guiding Star covered 700
miles, making the distance from Van
couver, B. C, to Portland.
Captain Bernays and his companions
will remain in Portland a few days,
guests of Bev. Bernays at the Seamen's
Institute. This la the first time a craft
of the slse of the Guiding Star has
made the risky voyage, and sailors con
sider it quite a feat.

Salem. Or., June 18. Governor Cham-
bar la In yesterday received an Invitation
to deliver the Fourth of July address at
Grand Junction. Colorado. ' The gover
nor wilt remain at home, however, and
will deliver , an address, possibly at
Newberg, on tnat gate. .
CASE AGAINST DR.
THORNTON DISMISSED
The case against Dr. d. A. Thornton
has been dismissed in the municipal
court at the request of City Health Of
ficer Dr. Esther C. Pohl. Thornton waa
arrested for failing to notify the city
health office of a smallpox case. While
dismissing the case against Thornton,
Dr. Pohl holds him partly responsible
for the epidemic which waa discovered
by the city health officers, and may
presa other cases against him.
Thornton contends that he did not
know that the case was one of small
pox. Dr. Pohl admits that the evidence j
probably waa not strong enough to con
vict him, but that she dismissed the !
proceedings because of her dislike to I
prosecute a fellow practitioner. In the '
other cases, however, she insists that
Thornton oould be convicted. I
Thornton's arrest followed the dis
covery of an epidemic of smallpox in ,
the northwestern part of the city. There
were 82 cases discovered by the health j
authorities and-Dr. Pohl alleges that
Dr. Thornton was responsible In parti
for the epidemic by failure to report i
the cases which he. handled. She stated 1
today that she had not decided whether 1
she would push the other cases or not.
