The committee sura would have heard some language then. "Of course l Know," said be, "that there was not any use of making a speech.) 1 know things were fixed. But I did let those fellow know we were on to them. Why, we are skinned from Florida to Texas before our causes ever come up. , .. !.. : "Some of these blacks are roaring around nere ana wantea to noil, some of them want me to run for president. K 1, what's the use of that? Let 'em do what I anv going to do offer their services to t Bryan or Johnson, which ever Is. nominated : and go into every doubtful state and persuade the blacks and poor whites to vote the Democratic ticket." The First. Second, and Third Georgia districts and the Third Florida district were passed until Monday, as the con testants were not present Then thev will be taken up and after them the Kaatuclty oontf. i,yf , , , ;,, looking' for Tloe-Presldent." Ths Tafters are so certain of the nomination of their candidate that they are casting about for a vice-presidential candidate and officers of tha national committee, in that scheme it Is patent that there are efforts for a reconcilia tion with the' allies. It was quietly announced from an in spired source in the evening that Sen ator W. Murray Crane might be asked to be' 'treasurer of the national commit tee, a post that will be vacant by the retirement of Cornelius B. Bliss. ? The appointment. Of Mr. Crane to that post would serve a double purpose, c Be la the head and front of the anti-Taft alli ance in' the first place, and would in sure the hearty support of the allies fop the Taft ticket. J , :;olTM'-llay aet place.- ' - Neiti' 'Crarte'a selection as treasurer would leave the Tafters free to choose some younger, more aggressive and radical .man quite possibly Senator Dolliver of A Iowa for the vice-presidency. And euca an arrangement la what the; Tafters , would like. A con servative like. Crane to keep the "in terest" In line and .get a campaign fund, and a semi-radical like Dolliver to get the warm support of the Rooseveltlans of the party. That arrangement would also include Harry S. New for chair man of the committee and Elmer Dover as secretary, both of 'whom have been trained under Hunna and Cortelyou in getting contributions. . -. ' In the event that no deal can be made with Crane -to manage the Taft cam paign Crane or another ."reactionary" it Is possible a '"reactionary" may be put on as vice-president -and a "radi cal ' selected to- manage the campaign. The Tafters are out for harmony. John Hays Hammond's boom for the vice- presidency was heard from again to il ay. - worn - came irom (jaurorma tnat he had telegraphed there for suDoort and had been . refused. Tentatively Agree to Bolt, The allied opponents of Secretary of War Taft have tentatively agreed to bolt the Republican national committee with their contest from southern states. Their plan Is 'to take those' contests directly to the credits com mittee of the national convention upon a statement that the national committee is packed for Taft and Is prejudiced and unfair. . This Dositlon was agreed upon at a conference of the tepresentatlve of the allies late tonight Formal announce ment of the plan-- awaits tha approval of the; allied candidates . themselves Vice-President Fairbanks, Speaker Can non. Senator Knox.. Senator Foraker and Governor Hughea. f Telegrams were sent those gentlemen tonigni ana ra pUes are expected Sunday In time for the announcement to be made tomorrow night. The announcement ; may be de UvAri untie Mondav. at i which time Cannon is expected to be hero to speak for hunseir, ana otnera may come. pother Bolt Meetings Held. The meeting at Which the plan to bolt was finally determined upon was held at the Chicago ciuo, - There had hMn twn others earlier in the dav. Those present were: senator -w. Mur ray Crane of Massachusetts, chief of all the anti-Taf tars, senator James A. Hemenway and josepn a. seating, rep resenting Vice-president Fairbanks: A. li. Htimnhrpv ror , uovernor Musrhes: Congressman James Francis Burk for senator Knox and Jonn niversman ror Speaker Cannon. . There had been two irevious conrerenoes ai wnicn tne mat er was discussed at length, 11 Everr effort was made to keen the determination secret. Benator tiemen- way - even half heartily denied that he had been at the last conference and he also denied, or rather refused to admit, that such an agreement had been , reached. j- .MMk' Talk on Subject.' ', .-. . . He did admit though, that . there had Been a great ' deal o; a areat -deal of talk on the mih- of ti ect and that some of the-representatives of allies had gone so. far aa so IS tl fi-a; to suggest that they, the allies, should ueir aeie the convention if all the Taft delegates from the south were -seated, as It now seems they wilL , : . .. . . Such talk was wild. Senator Hemen way said, and efforts are being mad to prevent any radical action. - " - ' -Senator Crane, the great compromiser Ji.ihffc prt,E no .declared, la pleading with the more radical ones to act con servatively and not to do anything rash. Senator Crane, the Indlanan also stated, will use all his Influence to keep he allies from, even bolting the eommitta Iri the contests. .The Information that the bolt had finally been determined on came to The Journal, however, direct from a person present. ; And -the same information was given out by what Hemenway Insisted was a press argu ment lor the Tafters' news Dureau, . Admission of Defeat, ; iTaft's manager, Hitchcock.: said to night that the bolt was an admission by the allies of defeat - . If the bolt cornea, as It now seems certain, it will have the entire sympa thy and support of ths colored con testants who are being thrown oat . of the national committee. ; They met to night and declared there Is no hope of justice ror the DiacK man at tne nanas of the national committee. They, as well as the representatives of the al lies, contemplate a direct appeal to the credentials committee of the national convention ' itself an appeal, they say for square deal before an unpreju diced set or judges. - Two Causes Given. Two direct causes Are given-for ths threatened withdrawal of the eontests. The first la that Frank H. Hitchcock, manager of the Taft campaign, and two others of the Taft entourage insist upon sitting with the committee in spite' of a protest which was renewed today. The other is that tha committee is so strongly pro-Taft that no anti-Taft del egate can expect to be seated, no mat ter how Just his cause.
