Crop conditions In' the great wheat
belt of eastern Oregon and the entire
Columbia river basin were never better.
Frospect for a bumper wheat erop were
never, better. -Eecent bountiful rains

will ripen the heads and turn the straw

This report is brought here by Al

lias just returned from an extended
tour of the wheat belts, In the interest

cargoes from Europe to Ban Francisco,

' "Conditions certainly do look promis
ing in the large wheat belts," said Mr.
Tucker this morning, "and a bumper
crop Is practically assured. Growers
say prospects were never so good be
fore and they are more than pleased
with the outlook.; The rain came Just
In time and has continued lone enough
to insure against any possible damage
from lack, of moisture. Sunshine will
be wanted in a few days and they feel
there is very little danger of not getting
' It with the season so well advanced.
Prolonged rains at this time give every
reason to believe that fine weather will
favor harvesting time, a prospective
feature not lost sight of by the cheer-
' ful wheat farmers."
' With an enormous wheat crop and
the north bank road ready to haul grain
over Its new track, river boats tapping
the country not handy to the railroads
and the O. R. A N. hauling the big
rrops of the country contiguous to Its
lines, the Oregon metropolis bids fair
; to enjoy the greatest wheat exporting
season In history. This season Portland

Work on the north bank road's Im

f Barter street, in North Portland, is
progressing as rapidly as possible so
as to have It ready for business when
the new crop begins to pour in. The

facilities for dispatching grain cargoes
snd it- is predicted that 5,000,000 bush

2.000,000 bushels a month' have been
