Noce was badly battered about the head and body. The wagon was damaged and the horse i&Jured so bad ly that It had to be killed. The dead animal lay on Union avenue, about 60 feet from Morrison street, all day, de ntin e the fact that the oolice were noti fied, and was an objectionable feature to the thousands or persons who passed at the busy street intersection.; W. A. Cecil was arrested' yesterday morning on a complaint charging the 4- theft of five 100-pound sacks of sugar, alleged to have been taken from lason, Ehrman A Co., Fifth and Everett streets. Cecil, la alleged to have driven an express wagon to the grocers' bulld Ina and helped himself to the sugar. It is believed that the sugar was disposed of In Albina. Cecil Is alleged to have been flashing counterfeit orders for sugar on various merchants. In proceeding to a matinee yester day afternoon. Mrs. M. A. Lear, 1497 .Curtis- street. Arbor Lodge, dropped dead In front of the Mohawk building. Third and Morrison streets. Death was due to heart disease from which Mrs. Lear bad been a sufferer for several years. She leaves a husband and eight children, four sons and four daughters. At the time of her death Mrs. Lear, was ac companied by a daughter-in-law, Mrs, r E. N. Smith, and three sons. , . A county W.
