Salem, Or., May 4. Oregon City won
from Salem on the Trl-Clty league
grounds here yesterday afternoon by a'
score of 1 to 0. The visitors outclassed
'the Cherry City aggregation both in the
field and at the bat. Salem'a players
muffed easy flies In the field and other
wise seemed up In the air most of the
time.
Robinson, for Oregon City, pitched an
'excellent game. He struck out three
men and allowed four hits. Jermaln,
'for Salem, was in (rood form and struck
out seven men, but allowed six hits,
fin addition to this Salem made four,
errors to Oregon City's single error.
.Oregon City made her runs In the third
;and sixth Innings, three the first time
dind one In the last. Cary, Salem's first
baseman, played the most consistent
game.

tha season here yesterday, defeating
the Dayton team bv the score of 10 to 0.
Todd, who covered the slab for Sher
wood, waa an enigma to the visitors,
allowing bUt three hits and striking out
10 men. J. Parrott's one-hand catch
of a high fly was the most sensational
play of the day. The Dayton- pitcher
was batter hard throughout the game,
three two and one three-bagger be
ing secured off him. Kiaer got tho
three-bagger. A return gam will ba
played at Dayton next Sunday and a
number of fans are expected to accom
pany the Sherwood team.

Athletic club are getting soma mighty
good advertising all. over tha east this
week from the Hearst News service pa
pers on account of the enterprise of Ed
ward E. Morgan. The article Is from
the pen of Manhattan, the famous
sporting writer, and appeared In hun
dreds of newspapers throughout the
country.

raised, and the returns thus far make
it certain that the American team will
not be hampered for lack of funds. Not
only are the wealthy men who are; in

race from Eugene to Portland yesterday

The distance from Eugene to the

and (9 Vi minutes, being practically a
mile In 1 minutes. Sixty odd birds
took part In the flight from the col

Fifth place Was taken by H. K.
Brown, sixth by H. H. Wilson, seventh
by K. Lulls and eighth by T. H. Bechill.
All but six or the birds arrived at the
loft within two hours after the win
ner was timed in, making an unusually
large percentage.

The Newsboys' baseball team yester
day defeated the Goose Hollow team
28 to 4. The game was a walk-away
for the Newsboys. They will now chal
lenge any team In the city composed of

With the .arrival In the city this
morning of Pitcher Garrett and Catcher
Walsh, advance guard of the Portland
baseball team of the Coast league. In
terest In the opening sjame tomorrow
has been given added Impetus. Both
players bring glowing accounts of the
work of the Beavers in the last series
and are confident that the first series
of the season In Portland will be Just
as profitable to the McCredle bunch.
Both players after reporting at the
smoke stands hied themselves to the
ball partk to get a squint at the
grounds. Then they hurried away to
get rooms In the Immediate vicinity and
will practice there this afternoon.
They came north before the team in
order to condition the spltball artist,
who says he is to pitch the first game.
This is at variance with the announce
