More than 13.000 has been spent for books of this class, but many books and consid erable cash has been donated to this department, so that the books, now in .- the hands of the library commission are worth much mora than that figure represents. The plans have been drawn, and H ts estimated that it will cost tl.800 to make the improvement, which will con sist of removing tha front vestibule and the building of a gallery. A kitchen and lavatory will be built at th,e rear. some or trie members are m favor of buildinr an entirely new edifice Instead of improving the old building, and be lieve that- if part of the grounds on which the church stsnds were sold, to gether with individual subscriptions, sufficient funds could be raised. Defi nite plans will soon be adopted by the trustees. GOVERNOR TO OPEN CAMPAIGN AT VALE (Balem Bureau of Tha Journal, 387 State Street.) Balem, Or., May S. Governor Cham berlain haa received a number of Invi tations to attend the festivities being prepared at San. Francisco and Seattle for tha welcome of the Atlantic fleet, none of which he will be able- to acnept because of. the oncoming campaign. The governor will remain in Salem until this evening. He will stay at Portland over night and start early to' morrow morning for Vale, Malheur county, where- the first speech of tha eastern uregon campaign will be made. The governor In the next three weeks will make from one to three speeches a day until the campaign Is over.
