tor of The Journal In your Issue of
April 12, on page 13 appears an Article
headed, "Delayed by Grounding," which
Is so full of errors and so misleading
that I am instructed by the board of
trade of this place to publish the fol
lowing aa a correction:
The Elmore did not atrik a bar
while 'on her way to Bay City,' nor did
she 'strike on a bar in the channel
shortly after entering Tillamook bay.'
It was not 'neceasary to lighter every
bit of her cargo' and a lighter did not
have to be towed from Astoria to Tilla
mook to lighter her.' "
But the facts are these: The Elmore
ran aground after leaving Bay City for
Tillamook City, and about a mile and a
8?artiir. above the Bay clty wharf.

and on the mud flats as was clearly
demonstrated by several members of
this board and others who at the time
visited the scene of the grounding and
made measurements. The Elmore was

the seasatlonal charge at a meeting

that members of the currency commis
sion of th American Bankers' associa
tion had been "bought" by Wall street
to agree to a compromise on tne Aid
rlch financial bill now before the house.
The currency - commission came to
Washington determined to bring about
the defeat of the measure, but Crozler
declarea It has suddenly changed its
mind in a roost peculiar manner, lie
did not mention any names in making
the charge, adding that he was enabled
to obtain bis information because a
banker who addressed the house com
mittee yesterday mistook him for a
banker.
-In opening his statement Crozler said
that it cropped out yesterday that the
bankers are dissatisfied with the six
Der cent tax on emergency currency
and that they hold this emergency is
wrong in principle ana would be dan
gerous In practice.
"But at 10 o'clock last night our
distinguishes banking friends held a
conference," declared Crosier. "Today
