It was clearly In evidence last night during the address of H. M. Cake, who Is touring the state in behalf of Ms candidacy for the Republican nomina tion for United States senator. Mr. Cake explained his position with reference to popular elections of United States senators, and gav his reasons for his position. Those who believe in the people, he said, must necessarily be lieve In their right to elect their own senators. The senatorial aspirant spoke at length on various subjects of public Interest at this time. He was well re ceived, and certain part a of the speech were enthusiastically applauded. That portion referring to the popular election of United States senators was especially interesting to the audience. There was a good slsed crowd at the meeting, but noticeably absent were many of the machine bosses who once dominated local politics.
