Xrtoal Mutual Insurance Company Set tles Xoss Promptly. An example of the benefit of insuring property with home companies has Just been demonstrated In Portland. On the night of the 18th Edward Hall, a grocer at 408 First street, suffered a loss by fire. At noon on the 19th Mr. Hall was In possession of & check for the amount of the loss. This was paid by the Beaver State Merchants' Mutual Fire Insurance association, a local company, organized under the auspices of the Oregon Grocers' and Merchants' asso ciation. Ordinarily those who suffer fire losses are compelled to wait from 80 to GO days and frequently there are even longer delays In securing a settlement. Mr. Mall is greatly pleased at the treatment given by the Beaver State Mutual, and In the future will no doubt be a strong advocate of home concerns. The Beaver State Merchants' Mutual Is receiving plenty of encouragement from the merchants throughout the state. The officers of this company are well-known business men, ' In whom the policyholders have every confidence. D. C. Burns is president; B. J. Dresser, vice-president: C.'B. Merrick, secretary. and F. The Portland Rose society will hold a meeting tonight for the purpose of considering plans for the coming Rose Fiesta In June. To the Rose society has been given the task of making the rose exhibit during the fiesta. Last year this exhibit, gotten up on short notice, filled the forestry building and caused admiration and wonder among the visitors to the city, and even to the residents of Portland, who did not realize that Portland was producing the quantity and quality of roses placed on exhibition and kept there. This year the exhibit is to be greater and more wonderful still, and at the meeting tonight plans for securing the exhibits, placing them and handling the show will be discussed. adlllnary Sacrifice.
