TRIES TO FORCE LANDLADY TO
GIVE TRIBUTE FROM HER LIPS
Walter James was arrested this morn
ing because he wanted to kiss Mrs.
BJorklund.
Incidental to James' desire to press
his Hps to those of the lady Is his
subsequent belligerent attitude toward
Mr. BJorklund, and his attempt to choke
the latter. Thereon is based the com
plaint of assault and battery that led
to the Issuance of a warrant and James'
arrest.
The BJorklunda conduct a rooming
house at Fourth and Everett streets.
According to the story related to
Deputy City Attorney Tomlinson In the
police court this morning James went
to the house last night and rented a
room. He was shrwn to the apartment
by Mrs. BJorklund, who lit the gas and
looKea bdoui to mase sure tnat the
room was in order. As she turned to
leave she found her passage to the door
closed by the form of James, who de
manded toll In the shape of a kiss.
The man was Kindly Dut rirmly In
formed that kisses did not go with the
room, nor were they furnished under
the head of "extras." For reply James
forced the lady Into a corner of the
room, placed a chair in front of her
and then sat down in the chair. He
then quietly rolled a cigarette and in
formed Mrs. BJorklund that she would
remain a prisoner until such a time
as she consented to comply with his
request for a kiss.
Mrs. BJorklund declares she remained
a prisoner In the corner for an hour
and a half, at the end of which period
she made a break for tha d onr And
liberty. -She was caught by James and
returned to her prison, but not hefore
she had succeeded in arousing her hus
band by her screams for help. When
BJorklund arrived on the scene he was
choked until he promised to be good.
He kept the promise until this morning
when he swore to a warrant for James'
arrest.
'I must have been crazy," is all the
explanation offered by James.
