To tha consumer It la a hi oat lucky day and perhaps to tha pro- due It may ba conaldarad likewise after full examination of condition To tha conaumer It means, a decline of 10c per square In the price of creamery butter, but to the producer It means that much less for Ms cream. All city eamerles are down Bo a pound or 10c square for their various products this morning. Late yesterday it became ap parent to all tnat prices could not oe maintained until Monday morning, be cause everyone waa expecting a aharp cut In values. ' Consumers have been buying butter aparlngly for several nays in anticipation 01 saving ivo a square within the week. This forced the retailers to buy smaller supplies man usual, ana creamery men, wun their larger, output, found a decline the only practical solution of a market that waa about to become clogged with too much butter. Late yesterday one elty creamery cut its price loo a square; this being followed a half-hour la tar hy another city Institution. Thla morn ing there waa a general drop among the other creameries each accusing the other of secretly cutting values, con trary to the rules made and provided, tc, etc. California Butter the Cause. The cause of all this commotion among the makers of butter and the consumer has been the shipping or lib eral supplies of California butter Into this market In recent days. Creamery men here realized that It would not pay them to allow the Callfornlana to se cure a foothold here even during the flush of the southern season. They all realized that they must keep tne callrornlans out. but none or mem wanted to cut our own 'butter price at this time, because at the moment there was a demand for all they manufac tured, even though the price was 10c a pound above that ruling In the south ern markets. However, several hand lers began to bring In stocks from the south, and for this product lower prices were quoim. in time mm naa a weaa- nlng effect upon local conditions, and today's sharp decline which has been predicted by The Journal waa forced upon the unwilling makers. Outside Creamery Anticipates Move. One outside creamery with Its ear to the ground anticipated the decline of to day oy cutting the prloe on Its product do a square a rew dy"ago. The mak ers found their product selling slower, with Indications of a general glut If rices were, maintained? At the record reakipg valuesWhlch have ruled here for so long thin would Involve a heavy loss upon makers If they were forced to sen at a lower price arter paying rec ord figures for cream. All outside creameries followed tha move , of the City creameries today. 4 ' Eggs' Oo Into Storage, There is a small movement of eggs into storage the input being practical ly nominal. Today s price on the street ranges rrom 1 to llc with most of the sales at the higher figure. Demand for eggs Is Increasing at the lower figurea, lor consumption Is much greater. ' It Is not believed that storsge operations will become extensive Just now because everyone Is awaiting a lower market. Most of the storers lost money on last season's Input and are very cautious this year. The same con- eutlona exist In the eaat. i Brief Votes of the Trade. Chickens are higher because of the sjmall arrivals and the very liberal de mand. Geese are not wanted. i Pressed meats maintain the former high level of values with receipts light. Fish of all varieties are quite plenti ful in the market at this time. Hand lers say they will have a sufficient mount of frosh salmon to run their trade for a week after the close of the season. If William t fiauer, a grape grower and wlnemaker, . . bf Vineland, continues to drink. It will cost him 33 a weeK. in aaaitlon to too value of what he drinks; If he becomes 1 a total abstainer, he may keep the money and enjoy the society of his . wife. This decision waa filed in the Camden court oi chancery in the suit for alimony brought by Mrs. Barbara . Bauer against her husband. Vice Chancellor Learning in his de- clslon says: "There Is no doubt In my mind that -1 the primary cause of tbe trouble be- ' . tween these parties is the Intoxication : of the defendant '1 hold that a wife is not obliged te live with a husband who does not pre serve for himself the scenes which Ood , has given him, bat destroys his own faculties and renders himself a bnita by the use of intoxicants. The husband Is entitled to a wife's society, 'her com- fort and services, and the. wife le en- , titled to the same upon the part of the husband in his normal condition; . and the duties which she ewes to her hus- band are duties owing to a sober man.. It is not the purpose or alimony to - enable a wife to live away from a hus- v band at his expense, and enjoy herself . In her own way upon the luxuries bought by his money. It is not the purpose of alimony to make separations attractive. The purpose of alimony la . , to contribute to the needs of a wife.' ;.. when the husband is in fault and not la a way to render It deslrsble upon the oart of a wife to avoid In the future . appropriate efforts of reconciliation. rIf Mr. Sauer will quit drinking, will .v leave his wine and other Intoxicant :. alone, I am satisfied it will operate to ' transform his nature to such an extent that he can and will become a good hus- , band."
