He, according to the story of some, "butted in" down in the first precinct He was on hand at the meeting and 1 was elected a delegate. ' According to the story, Ralph Moody, also elected a delegate from that pre cinct, was detailed as a central com- ' mttteeman to post the notices of the ' meeting. He went out of town and Mr. . , Hodson began to assume his functions. Hodson wanted to post the notices, fix the place of meeting, and apparently have a hand in naming the delegates. hi was snumea on, nowever, Dut was on band last night. Eiiffflifl Hi Councilmen Dispense With Real Business to Soap Each Other's Eyes. s in mui THIEF CUT HAND - ON STOLEN GOODS In endeavoring to get away with $20 worth of carpenter's tools . from the tool, house of John Al meter. Twenty ninth and 8avler streets, last night, a thief cut his hand so severely that his doctor bill may aggregate considerably more than the price of the implements he secured. The robber got Into the tool house by means of the key-to the lock which he . found hidden under a board. After gaining an entrance the bold, bad man threw the key away. It had served his purpose. In feeling around In the dark .the thief accidentally cut his hand on a sharp chisel. This morning blood was found all about tne vplnce and leading out to the sidewalk. Saws and other tools valued at 20 were taken. When there la nothing else for mem bers of the council to debate about they usually manage to arouse a "laugh" by accusing one another of making "grand stand plays" to get tneir names in prim. Such an Incident occurred .yesterday when Councilmen Baker and Kellaier got Into a controversy over the trans fer of the liquor license of Paul Zimmer man to H. Jacobson at Second and Couch streets, which was voted down by the council. Flelschner, Mayer & Co. have a fac tory at thla location, and the superin tendent of the factory explained to the council that the girls in his employ would be unable to reach the streetcars without passing through a crowd of loafers and drunken men If the saloon were established at thla corner. He said there were already three saloons on the corner at the intersection of these atreeta and the corner on which the I saloon waa intended to be situated was I the only one left that the girls could. use in going to tneir cars wunoui pass ing roughs and toughs that congregate in front of the saloons. Councilman Baker wanted the matter referred back to the liquor license com mute for further consideration. Dr. Cottel, chairman of the committee, made a statement In which he said that al though the committee had recommended the issuance Of tne iranster, ne waa willing to change his vote and refuse the transfer. Councilman Kellaher then arose and nnkflri that the transfer be voted down. Mr. Kellaher referred to the condition confronting the girls passing on the cor ner on their way home and said that the transfer should not be allowed. Mr. Baker Jumped up and said: "All this hot air talk about working girls Is bosh. You (turning to Kella her) are simply making this play be cause we have a number of newspaper men here so that you will see your name in print." Kellaher replied by saying that he waa sorry he had stolen Mr. Baker's thunder, and acknowledged that he had been guilty of an ungracious act In an ticipating; Baker In getting before the limelight " MANNING OUT FOB REELECTION I shall be a candidate for reelec tion to the office of district attorney for the Fourth Judicial district Trust ing that my record both as an official and as a citizen is sufficiently known The clear-headed, - active man weaves brain cells into . his daily work.
