For real broilers and fryers, the price atands between 4.008.00 a dosen, which prac tically means 30 to 40o a pound. The ordinary run of small chicks some times called broilers and fryers weigh ing about two pounda, are now being -outfit at 18 to 20o a pound. Supplies of spring chickens are very light. Borne shipments are being made In this di rection from California because of the unusual high prices now ruling In the Portland market. For ordlnanry chick ens the market In steady at the prices printed by The Journal during the past week. Geese are not being sought, and when they arrive, show a dragging dis position. Clean Eggs at 80 Cents. The egg market Is showing a disposi tion to weaken on every occasion of fered. Today one of tho largest hand lers of ranch Btock on the street cleaned up the supplies at 20c a dosen and was very eager to let go at this figure. Oth ers were generally selling around the same figure, although once In awnne there was talk of 21c being squeeied by those who receive but few shipments and can always place ono ui above the market. Salmon Market Is Xrfwer, POULTRY TONE QUITE GOOD AND STEADY , " " "There la a good and steady tone In the local chicken market. While recelpta have been quite good, there haa been sufficient demand to keep the market In good shape and prloea have been generally maintained. (United Press Leased Wire.) Salem. Or., Feb. 24. The state grangers today filed arguments against the "free pass" bill and the appropria tion of" 125,000 for four years for the establishment of armories throughout the state. The grangers assert that the only active serriee to which the militia Is ever called Is . to settle differences between large corporations and their employes, and that the former evade in every possible manner the navment of their taxes; that the Pacific Tele phono company and powerful interests are trying to overthrow the cross earning tax law passed at the last elec tion; also that additional necessary endless appropriations to install arm ories over tha state would' result In grafting.
