(Special DUpttch to Tbe Journal.) University of Oregon, Eugene, Feb. I L Except for the game with a team from Muscatine, Iowa. February 28, the basketball season for the University of Oregon Is over. On account of lack of money Manager Nelson was com pelled to dispense with the services of Coach Murphy and for the next two weeks the team will practice under tn-a leadership of Captain Hathaway. Wblls thia will handicap the team to some ex tent Murphy has the team in good shape and they will be in good condition for the game. The loss of the Multnomah club game which was to have been played here Sat urday night is a keen disappointment to the students, as It was expected that Oregon would retrieve its defeat by Multnomah last Saturday night. Through a mistake the Eugene Hlgn school obtained the Armory for next Saturday evening so the game was called off. Multnomah wished to post pone it anyway, as they are to play the Portland Y. M. C. A. team Monday even ing, but another date could not be ar ranged so the game was given up. Coach Murphy was greatly hampered by lack of proper training quarters ana other inconveniences and consequently the team has been handicapped to a freat extent and could not show us ull strength. ' ' Practically all the games lost on the northern trip were lost by small mar gins. . . The work of Coach Murphy has been very satisfactory and the team, as a whole, has improved wonderfully under his guidance, wun Murpny a next vear Oregon should have one or the swiftest teams in the northwest. There will be three of the best men to graduate this year, Captain Hathaway, Van Scoy and Ramp but abundant ma terial will be left from which to select the 1908 tearn Tur of War March 8. San Francisco, Feb. 21. In a vain en deavor to tempt the Sullivan money from Its hiddlng. betting figures tool? another tumble and Ketchel is quoted as a 10 to 6K favorite. Even at that price there was no wild rush to get aboard the twin, and It was freely ad mitted that the price Vlll go to 10 to 6. Whether It will eventually drop to t to 1, tn has been predicted in certain circles, remains to be seen. "If there is no Sullivan money In sight by tonight," said a well-known betting commissioner. "I guess we'll have to admit that tbe price will be 2 to 1. It's hard to say where the Sullivan backing is. So far there haan't been much money, but It .nay come with a rush." The strange part of it all is that whlla the Ketchel people are willing to bet at 10 to 6 on the general result, they do not want even money on 20 rounds. Apparently if Ketchel can win. his strength should enable him to win in short order, but neither the fighter nor his friends are betting that way. When the men enter the ring there will probably be a difference of six or more pounds in their weight Mike Twin will hardly fight above the ISO mark, and probably will be a trifle be low. Ketchel will scale well up to 151 after he has made the necessary weight of 164 pounds in the forentxm. Mike Twin Sullivan laid off yesterday and took an excursion to San Quentln with a party of friends. He was es corted through the penitentiary and saw the various points of Interest. Upon his return, which was early In the aft ernoon, Mike did some shadow boxing. Today will be a fairly quiet one with him. Ketchel contented himself with road work. He weighed 153 yesterday, and if he is below weight this morning, will have an absolute day of rest, as he wants to be fully up to 164 pounds when he fights.
