FLAVOR" SOLO BY DRUGGISTS, CftOCEftS e CONFECTIONERS EVERYWHERE mm GROWERS INCREASE AREA Construction of B6ads in Washington Wheat Belt to Make Change. (gpedal Dispatch to Tie onraat) Tacoma, Wash, Feb. 11 From Infor mation received by Chief Deputy Grain Inspector S. S. King, and from obeerva tiona he has personally made, tha cer eal acreage of Washington, especially the area of lands sown to, wheat, will ine be very greatly Increased within neat two or three years. The primary reason for the big jump in such a short time is the construction of railroads across tha state and the opening by them of grain districts that have heretofore had no outlet. The Mil waukee railroad, according to Mr. King and wheat men here, all the way across eastern Waahington traverses excellent wheat country, the vast percentage of which now haa no outlet The north bank line, which will be open to traffic within less than a month, opens for set tlement a virgin belt extending through the aouthern portions of Yakima and Klickitat counties, penetrating the new ind richly cereal productive "Rattla anake" district and "Horse Heaven" countries. The north coast railroad's right-of-way also will give an open door for traffic to a vast amount of splendid wheat lands that are now practically woithlesa on account of there being no transportation, it costing more to hi haul , . Valparaiso .San Francisco Honolulu Taltral the wheat to the dlntant railroad sta tions than can be afforded. For these rearons the amount of wheat grown In Waehlngton within the next five years will be, at a rough estimate, probably between a third and one-half more than It now is, and the Income of the atate from lta wheat product that much more. 'The situation la such as to Impress all who take an Interest fn the growth of the state commercially with the Im portance of our cereal industry," said Mr. King today. "The domestic wheat traffio and the export of the cereal from Waahington Is going to Increase in volume very fast and our wheat com met ce will probably attract more atten tion to tne nortnweat in a lew years than any other feature." Mr. King nays that there remains still from 20 to 25 per cent of the 1807 crop in the east aide warehouses. Practic ally all of the wheat haa now passed out of the hand of farmers. Winter wheat looks exceedingly well this sea son, and th blanket of snow that re cently fell in eastern Washington In auri'8 it immunity from freexlng. The open winter has resulted In more plow ing for spring wheat than during any other preceding season, and Mr. King believoa that, the acreage of spring sown grain may eclipse In area any previous year. The acreage of winter wheat is about the same as last seaaon.
