The Baaala Dollar left down tbla

act of beroiatn that came near ending
in a irmgeay. e
- Lumber waa being lifted on board
in alinga from a eoow along aide the
big ateamer at anchor In raldatream and
unnoticed to the ateam-winoh oper
ator a Chinaman had crawled upon the
rail to adjust the deckload lashings.
The heavy allng of lumber bore up
againat the Chinaman and jammed him
aaalnat tbe deckload of Dlllna until he
assumed ahape of a gingerbread man.
' Strangled Smith, who waa on the deck

the deckload. Smith held the Chinaman

Kntideon pulled and the Injured China

Wltneaaea aay the enraged Chlneae
