Better Service in Shipping
Asked From Railroads
by Association. 1
Discussion of better arrangements
with tha railroads in the matter of ship
ping and handling blooded stock ooca
pled most of the time during the de
liberations at the meeting yesterday
of the Oregon Pur Bred Livestock as
sociation in th Hamilton building. The
livestock association according to cus
tom holds Its meeting at the same time
as the North Paclflo Fair association
which also met yesterday In the same
Duiiding.
The meeting called to order yesterday
by President Richard Hcott or Mliwau
kle was one of the best attended ever
held. F. H. Fogarty, assistant general
freight agent of the Northern Paclflo.
and R. B. Miller, general freight agent
of the Harrlman lines, were invited to
attend the meeting, which they did. As
a result the consultation that took place
was a peculiarly profitable one.
ftome Bettor stai-rloe.
It Is the obl.ct of tha livestock men
to secure better accommodations during
the time they are making th circuit of
the fairs with their stock. Among other
thlna-s they want the railroads to aetaii
a capable freight agent during the fair
season wnose oniy auty win oe io

see that they get accommodations at
every city In which they exhibit.
tinder existing conditions the stock
men are met at every station by a dif
ferent freight agent. Sometimes the
frelcht aa-ent Is cental and accommo
dating and sometimes he Is not In
this same connection the stockmen have
atiked that they be allowed the use of
the same cars. It la Quite an Item of
expense and Inconvenience to the breed
ers when they are required to build new
stalls and otherwise arrange their cars
when traveling from one fair to another.
The fairs start late in August and fol
low In consecutive weeks until Novem
ber 1.
If these two points can be rained the
stockmen believe they will have won a
big victory. Because of past troubles
with the carriers many breeders of
ure stock have refused to send va ma
le herds to the exhibitions. It will be
a great concession to the breeder who
show every year in the nortn racino
fair circuit and a stimulus for breeding

Hards Buffer.
Several breeders related to the rail
road officials their experiences, telling
how their herds had suffered In transit
from one fair to another because of Im
proper treatment by freight agents
along the line of travel and at the point
of unloading and reloading. A commit
tee was appointed consisting or Kicn

Included for th convenience of the
stock exhibitors as they will have been
agreed upon between the committee ap
pointed yesterday ana tne railroads.
This will be of immenao convenience
to the stockmen In every part of the
northwest.
Changes In classification and premium
lists were discussed. A committee on
this subject was appointed last year
end recommended yesterday that each
fair adopt unlrorm rules. The commit
tee was continued so It could conclude
Its work. By chancing the classifica

was that of age. It Is thought that an
age claesiricatlon would De desirable.
Premiums will also be Increased both
In number and value.
There was a lane attendance both

the Oregon men nnd at the banquet
