THE OREGON DAILY JOURNAL. PORTLAND, FRIDAY EVENING. FEBRUARY '7. 1908. 'A- .4 ': 1 '. - t ; ,. i Kruse, One. of the Exposition Skatera, Who U Making Good Rec ord In Six-Day Race at the Oaks. -4 RECORD SCORE MADE BY SIX-DAY RACERS Eight Contestants in Con test at Oaks Rink Fin ish With 99 Laps. Ttas highest score, collectively, yet to be made In the six-flay roller skating race at the Oaks rink was recorded last Bight when eight of the nine contest . ants flnlahed the 30-thlnute relay with 19 la pa to their credit. Monday night at the conclusion of the first relay two of the racers scored I laps and Wednesday night there were three who showed this speed, but previous records went glimmering when the pistol cracked last night at the conclusion of the half-hour spurt. Har rison, who slipped and went down early In the race, was the only one of the J roup to lose a lap. He was also cut own a quarter at the finish, but the fall he had received earlier In the even ing had been a heavy one and he felt the effects of It too much to force himself Into the. lead bunch when the final strain came in the concluding minutes of the relay, i All the rest of the contestants clung ' together like glue during the 20 odd minutes of steady racing and last few moments of killing exertion to gain a lap or a fraction of a circle at the close. The best efforts of Copeland. Card and Holt to gain an advantage through sudden bursts of speed proved unavailing the rest of the racers hung to their heels with the tenacity of ter riers. Tonight and tomorrow night will con clude the race. It is expected that owing to the closeness of the contest a break will be made early in the race tonight in an effort on the part of some of the racers to gain a decided ad-, vantage. Whenever thia occurs, whether tonight or the one following, the highest pitch of excitement of the entire contest will be reached. The five racers finishing with the greatest num ber of laps to their credit will enter a five-mile contest Sunday afternoon at 3 p. m. and will run a second race Sun day evening at 9 o'clock. Following is the total score.
