The comptroller of currency has made certain requirements, among; them the protection . of the bank from cosh Withdrawal demands, -before the hank can be reopened, Depositors apparently have not yet realized that they must comply with this condition, and ' are coming; in altogether too slowly to save the bank from liquidation. A logger named Archie Johnson waa drowned in the Columbia' river at Pekin, Washington, Monday: afternoon. His body has not been recovered. ' - Johnson, with two companions, John and Herman Johnson, left this , city Monday afternoon on the river boat Tahoma to seek work in the - logging camps near L Center, "Washington. When the boat arrived at Pekin the men decided to get off there and ask for work before proceeding to La Cen ter. ; John- and Xlermaa lft . tha boat but Archie Johnson, who had been drinking heavily, was unable to make hla way unaided up the gangplank. Two of . the deckhands attempted to assist him to the landing, but in some manner he slipped from their grasp and fell into the river. He sank immediately and was seen no more. Rodney ; to be used as. a residence for young women attending the univer ity. ' . . ; y A meeting tea been called by Bishop Scadding of the Oregon diocese to be held in the parish hall of St. Stephen's Pro-Cathedral, corner of Thirteenth and Clay streets. Friday afternoon at $ o'clock. Miss Carson, who is head of the English department and also dean of women at the university, will be present and will state the need. All women Interested 1 in the movement, whether Episcopalians or not. are in vited to attend. h . Miss Rodney was one of the first and foremost educators of Oregon for many years and waa for a long period , at the head of St. Helen's hall. She was a sister-in-law of the late Bishop B. Wlstar Morris, and was an earnest work er in the cause of higher education. It is especially fitting that a memorial to her should be erected at the leadin educational institution of the State, and it will be the first memorial dedicated to this pioneer educator.
