FOR SAVING A WOMAN
John Franklyn. a Northwestern en
gineer running between Kendall and
Sparta, has received a check for 110,
000 with a promise of another for ear
ing the life, of a woman at Devil's lake,
a few weeks ago. .HssV
Franklyn, with his wife, was spending
a few days at the lake. At the same
time William Peterson, a wealthy Chi
cago man, with his wife, daughter and
Miss Jenkins, a sister-in-law, was also
encamped at the lake.
One morning, while out in a boat, the
girl and Mlsa Jenkins rowed over to
a spring to get a drink. As Miss Jen
kins attempted " to get . back into the
boat She slipped, falling into the water.
The impact drove the craft from
shore,' and. although she managed to
seise -bold of the boat she could not
draw herself from the Water. For an
hour she held grimly to the boat while
her niece cried for helj). - To loosen her
grip ' meant death, fori the water was
more than to feet deepi at that place. -f
